I'm not going to pretend to know anything about him. What kind of player is he?

a playmaker. not really someone who looks to track back, but he'll wander around looking for the ball. wouldnt really suit a 442, but a fantastic player. already a regular with argentina. good passer, great feet and his touch and dribbling in the middle of the park is top stuff.

£34 mill isn't half expensive though

I'm not sure to be honest, im unconvinced from reading the article that he's not just a typical Argie who will leave in a few years.
"His dream to play for Barca", How long before he's back off then.
I hope if we do indeed sign him he can prove me wrong because we need a permanent Scholes replacement.

Now Fergies 10 million transfer fund won't buy a whole lot,now be realistic. You'll be lucky if you get Salif Diao and Lee Bowyer,Leave the quality players to the non debt ridden clubs.

football has moved on, times have changed. when you say a permanent scholes replacement, do you mean someone who will be at the club for the rest of their career? not going to happen. far too much money floating around football for there to be many one/two club footballers out there.

ronaldo eventually went to madrid. should we not have signed him because he was only with us for a few years?

He was £12million and 18 years old, we got a very good six years out of him, more than a few, so definately. It also wasn't inevitable/ obvious from before he'd even joined. Unlike Pastore, from these comments.
Of course we can find someone who would stay the majority of their career, We're United. It's about finding someone who knows their history. How else are the likes of Vidic and Evra being tied down to new deals? They would get bigger deals at Real, yet they are unlikely to leave until past their primes.
Or should we just accept it, and go for flavour of the month, until Barca or Madrid offer £60 million in two years?

I'm not saying we shouldn't sign him, he looks a top quality player, just the type of technical playmaker we need,
but if he works out well i'm have a feeling he'll be off in no time.
As I said, for a fee as hefty as £34 million, I very much hope i'm proven wrong by him in this respect.

There is a difference between the majority of a career (Vidic), and two seasons.

Could be just what we need. We rarely play 442 any more, and he could do a great job of dragging opponents out of position and creating space. When you consider Mandy Carroll was £35 mill, £34 mill sounds like a bargain <ok>

Tho' if he arrives Park may be on his way out, cos I don't think we can pick more than three non EU players in a match squad and we already have Anderson, Vidic and Park...

fergi spent 20m last summer so that makes ur argument look embarrassing

his agent is england and the deal is set for a plus 30m deal

if you want to know where the money is coming, check no further than the Utd bank account which holds 135m

Even though he would help you massively I would love to see this guy in the prem. Has a bit of Kaka about him in the way that as soon as he gets the ball he will look to go directly towards the opponents goal. Got plenty of tricks in his locker as well, a great dribbler.

Non debt ridden clubs. Wasn't that Liverpool just a few months ago? Wouldn't be so smug you just traded one American for another.

I would love for us to sign Pastore but £35 million is a pretty big gamble. He is only 21 and does need to improve to actually be good enough, though his potential is there for all to see. If the money is there then why not I guess, we do really need a player in that mould. But it's a lot of money, providing the rumours are true, though Sky Sports don't often go publish random rumours.

4231, are you saying we shouldn't look to be signing the very best young players out there just incase they want to go to barca or Madrid in a few years? How ridiculous

Did you not even read my posts....?
Where did I say I don't think we should sign him...?
I said that he is a good talent, and I would love nothing more than for him to prove me wrong.

He would aid the team, but I don't think he's £30 million pounds good, I watch quite a bit of Serie A TIM football, he's overrated in the same way as were Aimar and D'alessandro. He has tricks up his sleeve but is selfish and often runs into blind alleys, and his passing is average. He's more of a second striker than a centre midfielder.
But for his age maybe it's worth a gamble....
I personally think Modric is better, and £30 million would possibly get him if Spurs failed to reach 4th place.
Also, Ever Banega looks top quality. A proper Cm, as opposed to a second striker. He has terrific technique and superb vision. Very similar style to Xavi. If I were Barca I'd be after him, not Cesc.

    This is also interesting.....
"Alexis Sanchez of Udinese recently drove alongside Antonio Di Natale to his a goal fest by scoring 4 goals and defeating Palermo with a scoreline that ended 7-0."
