Once again Wenger has come out with his lovely analysis of how we were unlucky, how we made a lot of chances, and how unfortunate we are for not getting anything from the game. How many times have we heard these same old excuses? When the same problems persist, and we continuously hear about the same excuses, you know something's wrong and that there is a need for change. Not only did Wenger give the same old rubbish explanation on those points, he once again talked about how the other team were more mature and experienced, for how long have we been hearing that? If the other team are more mature and experienced then why does he not sort that out? I cannot for the life of me understand how Wenger's supporters continue to put through with him and these continuous repetitive excuses after failure after failure. When do you say enough's enough? Apparently never. I guess we were just always unlucky, yeah, that's been the story of our 6 seasons, we were just hard done, yeah, okay, if that makes you feel better.

The man is deluded. Hearing his post match excuses is like listening to a politician who is part of a government that has lost the support of the people and is inevitably going to be voted out at the next general election. It is not a mystery why we keep coming up short!! I personally think that if we had a strong squad Wenger would be able to seriously compete for trophy, he is a very capable manager (or was). The simple fact, obvious to everyone who has even a basic familiarity with the premier league is that our squad is infested with perpetual no-hopers. If we had a strong bench it would not have been Arshavin who was brought on, it would have been a far more capable player and even though taking Oxo off would still have been the wrong decision, it would not have cost us the game like it did today. Who knows? We may have even been winning if we had replaced Nasri and Fab adequately. I am sick of accepting humiliating defeats as a fact of life at Arsenal. It may not be completely Wenger's fault that we can't spend a lot of money on new players but it completely his fault that he persists with the ****e ones we already have. Unless we make a serious U-turn on our transfer policy we will become a mediocre. mid table, nothing of a team, something unthinkable for a team of Arsenal's stature.

  3. I'm not really sure Arsene knows what to do anymore. There are so many things wrong with the team and to top it all, he is lacking personnel. If it goes downhill from here I really fear this is the beginning of the end. I really had hoped we could thank him properly when his contract draws to a close but the chances of this are getting slimmer by each difficult game.

I really wonder for how long Wenger thinks we ought to remain indebted to him for? I wonder if Wenger would have been fired if he was at any other top 5 club? I guess spuds would not have been proud of his record...... Honestly, I cannot see the board firing him..... They are just as culpable!

  5. Arsene is their man.

That tiresome CEO Gazidis had said that Arsene was a different type of manager, someone who came to them wishing to understand their sustainable model and work within it's parameters. In a sense therefore they are all in the same boat. I wonder if Arsene is now regretting this. Whatever is the case, he is eroding his legacy to the point of destruction if no change is forthcoming.

I wouldn't go as far as Jayram but it is really now working out with Wenger at the moment.

I don't know. You have to rate Wenger on his strengths as well as his weaknesses. I'm not sure that half the players in our team would even be playing top class football if it were not for Wenger. So, bad for subbing Ox )(maybe) but would the ex-Southampton player be capable of playing so well for us, if it weren't for Wenger? How about Van Persie/ Koscielney/Vermaelen/Song/Wilshere/Ramsey and now Yennaris? How would our club look if none of them were there and we had to pay 25M for a player to fill those positions.

How many players have Aston Villa broken into their first team like that and been able to hold onto? Everton? Liverpool? Spurs? Man City? Chelsea?

How much money and how many years have the spuds spent trying to get into the champions league? They've done it once in the same 15 years that Wenger has enabled Arsenal to be there consistently.

Believe me, if the Spuds had the same record as Wenger has for Arsenal, they would singing from the rooftops. Get some perspective.

You were predicting we'd be mid table this season, so I think your assessments are best left in the realms of wild speculation.

The issue of discovering talent and giving them a chance is an interesting one. Is Wenger the only person to be credited with doing this? or is this to the credit of the youth team managers, the scouts and all the coaches employed by the club? Are we saying that young players like Wiltshire, ramsey, Oxley- C would have been missed if Wenger was not there? Would any decent manager like Owen Coyle, Moyes, Hodgson, and others not recognise these same talent.

I think we are falling into the trap of thinking that no one else can do ANY aspect of the job that a current manager is doing. Even with Ferguson, there are things he is better than others but also things that others can do better than him.

I think a lot of Arsenal fans have blurred the difference between being an Arsenal fan and an Arsene fan. They are not the same. As much as i like Wenger as a manager and an Arsenal manager at that, he is making mistakes and failing in his goal of being a manager of winning trophies.

The one thing that attracted me to watching Wenger's Arsenal teams were the way they used to play, but not anymore. Last night's first half and many games for the past few years have been quite tedious to say the least. In the late 90s/early 2000's, Wenger produced such exciting teams that were a joy to watch. Now they seem devoid of passion at times and play quite boringly, making the same old enevitable mistakes.

Watching yesterdays Man City v Spurs game made me realise how much we've changed. This is what our game should have been between Man U, not the passionless display we saw last night. I know it won't go down well with fellow gooners but Spurs were exciting to watch. It was like watching Wenger's earlier teams, full of pace, passion and excitment.

I don't want Wenger to leave as i think he still has it in him, but i hope he accepts that his experiment is failing and needs to be adjusted. Please Wenger, listen to your fans and stop this stubborness as we don't want to see you go....

I don't want Wenger to leave if he accepts that we need serious strengthening. I've said many times before that if we had a strong squad, Wenger would be the edge we'd have over the other teams.

Nevertheless, we have gone backwards as a club in the last 5 years. Too many of his buys are not working nowadays.

  14. The defining aspect of Arsene's reign now is that he seems so intransigent about his ways. His defiant and angry reaction to the fans in respect of the substitution yesterday was to say ' don't question me '. Yet the questions have to be asked because the substitution was wrong. If it was an isolated mistake we would all move on but this is just part of a continuing catalog of errors, errors of tactics, of policy and strategy. If no end should come to them then we will sadly see an end to our club's status as a leading side. Surely this is not a legacy any manager would wish to leave behind. Arsene is fast dismantling the good that he had done.

When you say "Not Working" against what standard do you judge them? The team as a whole, has made top 4 every season. Is that "Not Working"? Man City now have a wage bill over double ours. Chelsea's is over 1 1/2 times ours. Saying that players plucked from obscurity are "Not Working" because they don't beat a team of 3 deep superstars, when we have 10 players out injured, is a little harsh.

  16. I think we have been very fortunate that the rivals around us on the table have like us, had varied results. If we had won all of our last 3 EPL matches, we would be 10 points ahead of Liverpool and reversed the gap to Chelsea and enjoying a Top 4 position. Had Liverpool been more consistent and converted their chances better then they may have been well ahead of us. We have not been doing well and I presume you're not debating this. However we have been very fortunate that our rivals have been having poor seasons. That though is not to suggest that we are good because our current placing is but by good fortune. Two bad runs this season already and the first one did see us in the lower half of the table. If we experience another poor series of performances we may indeed be looking at a mid table position. We should count ourselves fortunate but we're not good. Not by a long shot and when you're not good you risk clipping down further. Just as the quest for a Top 4 place is not over, it is by no means assured that we will not fall further. What if we had a poor run like the one that came after February of last year?

I'm not saying that others don't do it, but I am saying that Arsene has done it. Sir Alex and Wenger are really the only managers in England that have managed to bring through youth of international quality. I'm not going to be drawn into a debate about which is better at it, but when I hear about Martin O'Neill or Chris Coleman for manager, I just don't think that they would manage to bring a Fabregas, Van Persie, Song, Koscielney etc through at the level Wenger has. Our whole financial model at Arsenal is based on this ability. I know a lot of people don't understand why we cant spend 100M in transfer fees and over 200M on wages like Manchester City do, but my feeling is that we can't even spend as much as Liverpool. We could easily end up being like Newcastle, Liverpool, Spurs, or Everton, with a far worse record and no potential whatsoever.

Not sure if I would describe either of those changes as "Inept". He is clearly competent, and his reason for making the Ox change at least, was not foolish. You can say that he isn't a risk taker, or is too conservative, but inept is not valid in my opinion.

Toledo Trumpton, you post made me laugh !!

So Wenger and SAF are the only managers to have developed world some young players <laugh>

By international quality, there are loads of "internationals" who certainly are NOT International quality and how you put Song and Koscielny in that list with RVP and Fabregas is beyond me. For the record RVP and Fabregas were class when we bought them, Wenger didn't develop a thing with either of those, they would've been superstars anywhere.

Did the manager of Santos develop Pele ? Did the manager of Argentinos Juniors develop Maradona ?
