He was superb. Always brimming with pride when I see him playing even though he no longer plays for us.
personally i want him to fail with the way he left us, but you know dont clutch onto the past so i don't give two hoots about him now i think about it
Agree. He went for money and to some extent I hope he suffers because if he dies well then Arsenal will get credited with everything!
I don't blame him at all for leaving. He was 17 and offered an outrageous amount of money to play for one of the most illustrious well supported clubs in the country.
Yes,he was a bit silly leaving Arsenal at such a young age(17) but I want him to play well for them. When he plays for them, and plays well for Arsenal this will promote our fantastic club and it's academy and that can only be good for us.
Agree. Alex had plenty of opportunities to shout his mouth off over a move. Okay he spoke to the Mirror right near the end, but he never said "I want to leave". He said "Every player aspires to play at the top level when the chance comes." His Dad was a cock, but don't label him in the same way. He always gave 110% with the shirt on and kept quiet until the summer when he moved, which seemed to be a pre-arranged idea somewhere along the line. To me it became obvious that they had agreed that he would stay through January, finish the season with us, and then we would allow bids to be considered if they met our valuation. He certainly never made outbursts in the media and/or social media.
It's typical of the ignorance that swells up in many football fans. If a young player from Yeovil or Swindon joined us, then they'd be saying "it's a clear logical step for them to better themselves at a bigger more successful club". If a young player leaves Saints for a club in the Champions League then he's a money grabbing git and should be boo'ed at forever more.
I'm pleased for him that he's doing well at Arsenal. He can grow into a really outstanding player if Wenger doesn't try to turn him into something he's not.
People are not saying that at all. Anyone with any sense would not turn down Arsenal to enhance their career. It was the way he went about. If he had came out and said I want to leave , then fair enough. But he didn't, he just ****ed off with out a thought for the club who had looked after him since the age of seven, and who's guidance and support made him the player he is today.
As I said, ignorance. Chamberlain signed a 3 year pro contract which meant Saints could command £10m for him, instead of the £1m we would have got in compensation. If he didn't care about the club, he wouldn't have signed it and still got his move to wherever. He's been back to Staplewood a couple of times since and said nothing but good things about the club. You believe what you want to believe.
Spot on Annoying though because when we do finally come up against him, there's no doubt some idiots will boo, and then he will have a blinder!
If you saw the interview on Arsenal's site when he signed, he was very complimentary and thanked Saints players, Pardew and Adkins for their help in helping him get to where he is.
I haven't heard one bit of praise for our academy since he signed for Arsenal. That's the only thing that grates. It's all "Arsenal have found another gem of a youngster" or "Arsenal yet again producing great talented young players". Don't blame the lad at all.
