(Personal take so I don’t expect much of a response…)

Talk about irritants and moans and groans on here. Here’s another one to ruffle the feathers a bit more - albeit one that’s probably of such little consequence it could just make you smile in these trying times!

This season’s shirt design. It’s been getting on my nerves since the kit first came out. With four hoops visible above the tuck-in line we’re looking like Celtic in blue. Swans fans even suggested a Tesco carrier bag!

That’s not the Rangers I’ve been following these past few decades. They’ve always worn those majestic and distinctive big bold hoops: three visible and blue shoulders. I remember Ciarrai complaining about the same thing when the current design first came out just before the Bolton game.

Some rushed in to correct us, saying no, we sported thinner hoops back in the Marsh days… Not true, I tell you. Rodney and the boys wore the traditional thicker hoops, as did Stan and Les and every R since. Check Google images...

So what’s the point of all this Brixton, I hear you ask. It’s only a shirt design ffs!

True enough, it is only a shirt design, but this one’s particularly symbolic, a bit too close to the bone. Ominous even. Fact is the shirt design carries with it the legacy of the Goon show (yes Eamon, here I go again - everything starts and ends with that mob!). Too many little hoops with pale shoulders. Every time I see one of our current shirts it reminds me of the number of ill-conceived purchases we made back in the day and all those over-long contracts. So much unditchable deadwood it makes my inner accountant wail every time I think of the unproductive wage bill.

Water water everywhere but not a drop to drink. Forty ‘professionals’ on our books and yet despite the last minute September rush, we’ve been stretched to find 17 viables for match days. Far, far too thin for quality.

What we need is some meat on the bone. Some substance in who we are and what we do. Will that come in the shape of Samba, Alex, Taiwo, Henrique in the next week or so? Who knows, but even if it such reinforcements do appear, it won’t reduce our ranks to sensible proportions.

But watching those ‘Celtic’ blues yesterday, I couldn’t help but detect a glimmer of greater hope flickering through the wintry haze. Some of those little hoops might just come good and carry us over the line after all! Sturdy performances from the likes of One-Size, Mackie, BUZ, Derry, Helguson and Smiffy all lit my pondering pipe one way or another… and suddenly those friggin’ shirts weren't half as irritating as they'd been till now.

But I sure can’t wait to get our big proud hoops back next season!

    URsss!!!

You've obviously got too much time on your hands Brix, if the size of our hoops was all we had to worry about we'd all be laughing...

So above my desk I have a poster of ALL the QPR shirts from 1886 onwards...bought it at a carboot on the day we won the championship....some sort of karma there
Brixton is so right about the three hoops above the tuck line (please forgive me here I am a girl...I wonder about Brixton). The first time we have 4 hoops above the tuck line ine is 2000-1 with the Ericsson shirt and in 2002 with the jD shirt but by 2003 it was back to the thick hoops, my poster only goes upto 2007.

If I could chose I would go back to the three hoops iconic guiness shirt of 1985-87 (echoed in the car giant shirt of 2006).....But actually that doesn't really BUG ME
But do you know what really bugs me
    BUGS ME
It is the crest ....I HATE THE CREST
    the stupid shield with hoops.
I really loved the QPR crest that we had thro the 80s and 90s and I REALLY LOVED the old shield with the upside down horseshoes....but probably not a good idea this season.

    Sorry Brixton...rant over...going for a lie down

Sure the shirt in the mid 70s had quite thin hoops, but does it really matter as long as the home shirt is blue and white and is hooped unlike reading then ok surely.
Mind you would say don't think they should go any thinner

Many have shared that wonder Beth! The answer? Like the rest of us on here, just a virtual Rs fan I'm afraid...

Totally agree about the crest. Those fluffy bits around the outside remind me of Briatore. Wonder why?!

Agree! But thought they were thin hoops similar to the ones we have now.

Nice thread, was thinking of making one myself, with a slightly different angle though.
It's not just the thin hoops I take issue with, but also the sponsor who are "pasted" on. It looks massively amateurish and something i won't spend my hard earned cash on.

What i was thinking about though, was with the Italians gone, so might our Italian shirt sponsor (Lotto) too. Anyone who knows when that deal runs out? And now that we got Phil and Tony onboard, and all this global branding supposed to take place. What if we got the big guns to supply us, Nike or Adidas. Adidas are walking out on Liverpool, there might be that they see this as a oppurtunity to get in relative cheap compared to Liverpool.
Anyway, my point is that Nike or Adidas would make the shirts easier to sell in new markets like Asia, North and South America and Africa.

Adidas made the Guiness shirt in the 80's am i right? What a comeback that would be!

Guess what? We're all talking at cross purposes again. The OP ain't really about the shirt. It's an analogy about accepting what we've got.

You're far too clever for us Brixton, but please keep it up master thread creator.
I don't like blue shorts with our hoops, thin or thick ones!
