<laugh> I think we dine on said pie together mate! I am feeling rather sheepish after yesterdays humbling. You would probably get 10mil for him from Stoke or some other anti footballing team who see him as a battering ram (they will be disappointed too!)

Lucas was never that bad! He had some ability!

Carroll has shown **** all and I've lost my patience.

Not telling us anything new. To be honest I still can't understand all the furore over this 35m. Yes it was way over the odds, but it was blatantly linked to the Torres deal. Chelsea paid for Carroll by way overspending on Fernando Torres. 50m? His value was probably more like 30m at the time. Personally I still think Carroll will come good at Liverpool if he can settle. He is still young and still one of the best young striking talents in the country. He is gonna need to look after himself a little better and get over this homesickness but he is a quality youngster. Same goes for Henderson. He is good young player. He isn't worth 20m or whatever they paid but he is a good young player. Clearly the Americans are having trouble judging where to pitch in the English market but its not really Comolli or Dalglishs problem. They are just identifying the targets. I think Liverpool have yet to really gel or click but I think they'll improve next year. People seem to have forgotten how many young talents they have. Coates was very highly rated and will turn out a very estute buy after a year or so. They have the likes of Kelly, Sterling, Henderson, Carroll and few others. Dalglish has been sensible in identifying players who have huge potential for improvement. As they start to develop and supplement the stars Liverpool already have, they'll become a real threat to all.

I'd have Carroll back in a heartbeat.

I just wonder how long he can stagnate/decline before this potential is gone. Is he 23 already?

We've already got a left winger, one it turns out which is better than we actually thought before we bought him.

    Just turned I think.

Pouch I can agree with you to some extent that we can take comfort in the £35m after the Torres sale. But naturally I can't help keep thinking it was an opportunity missed to buy some real quality in the summer and push for a top 4 spot. Kinda like you guys did with the £35m and you didn't even spend half of it! <yikes>

I think people are getting carried away. He has struggled under the weight of the fee and not really settling. He hasn't been able to break into the team either and has had a few injuries. Of course he has not helped himself with his nights out etc and he needs to knuckle down. I just find it laughable that we now have the same Newcastle fans who loved and cherished him, saying he's useless. Modern football fans have very short memories. Its only been 12 months! He'll be fine in time.

True enough but patience is a virtue often forgotten. I believe Liverpool will improve significantly over the next two years. Dalglish got them going last year when they were down in the dumps. But the summer was always going to bring more change and he was always going to want to put his own stamp on the team. Liverpool have had a lot of change from Benitez to Dalglish. Hodgsons little spell brought about quite a bit of change in between and I just think patience is required with both Carroll and the team in general.

He has had time on the pitch to earn his place. He's neither earn't it with quality or worked hard enough. We still give him games though which is costing us dearly. I don't see him having a future with us despite his age.

It'll come down to him. The ability is there but he has got to want it. I think in the big money move he has maybe forgotten that his game when he left us still required an awful lot of work. By all accounts he was grafting his bollocks off in training with us, and he needs to get back to doing that for Liverpool. He won't have a future with you if he does not knuckle down and make the most of his talent. The nights out need to stop and he needs to man up on the homesickness front. Personally I believe he can be what he wants, it'll come down to desire. To be fair he hasn't shown it for Liverpool so far and that'll need to improve. I just don't think he's a lost cause after 12 months.

Hardly shock comments. every man and his dog knows Carroll isn't a £35m player, thats no excuse for poor performances though. Lucas isn't a £35m player but he puts a shift in every week. the same goes for most players in the premier league

Yeah I see what you're saying - he was good for you guys.

He's been here a while now though and to still not put the effort in is taking the piss quite frankly. We're not a Sunday league team where nothing rides on the game.

He's got untill the end of the season, but he's shown not a glimpse and he's not improving either.

However true this is, I still wouldn't want to see him leave for that amount. <ok>

I wonder how much worse he is really playing though? We are guilty of overrating our players and his goalscoring form for us only lasted a year (including the Championship), is it possible he was just on a good run of form and is actually a very limited player, who was thriving in a long ball team (Barton/Nolan)?

No because he hates long ball football and is ill suited to it. The only time he enjoys the ball in the air is when its crossed into the box. I don't think we overrated him, he was alot more motivated for us and hence he was unplayable at times. He is playing a hell of lot worse there due to motivational issues I think. He's not really showing Liverpool the club or its fans the respect it deserves to be honest. He needs to get his finger out and start grafting.

Aye you can see his heart isnt in it at Liverpool. He's not a quick player but playing for us he'd break his back to win a ball for us, and some of his play was stuff a player his size should never be able to do. I dont see him returning in the next few seasons though.

When Gerrard came on against us, was whipping quality balls in for Carroll and he was getting on the end of them, I thought he was going to kick on with his season from there. Gerrards crossing was similar to the Barton crosses that Carroll was deadly from for us.

But so far it looks like I've been wrong <laugh>

We'd never pay those sort of wages. He'll stay there. I was told by a lad who knows him that he is quite happy with his lot there. His performances suggest not! They reckon he picked up 3.1m to himself off that transfer, and 75k a week wages. Maybe that is where some of the lack of motivation comes from! Not sure how true the figures are mind.
