Pay Up (for) Pompey? For Pompey, Pay Up?

Discussion in 'Southampton' started by Schad, Jan 22, 2012.

?

Should Saints save Pompey, if it comes to that?

  1. Pay up for Pompey!

  2. Let our fishy friends flounder!

  3. I just don't know anymore!

At the match in December a couple of flares were set off by Saints fans in the Milton end.

Yes it was reported by eyewitnesses on this forum. And redandwhitecomrade you really must stop identifying a football club with either its criminal owners or the worst of the morons who might support it. A club is bigger than all of those people, and Portsmouth FC, yes, even them, do not deserve the contempt you show them.

Having said that, I wonder if they would be better off being liquidated now? I think my answer is "I don't know!"

I think you'll find the Turkish fans aren't much different now than they were in the 1990s.

And are you telling me you totally missed the violence between Birmingham and Villa fans last year? When they threw bricks and bottles at each other and began fighting each other and the police outside St Andrews. 9 fans - I use the term loosely - were sent to prison for that.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story though. I think it just helps some Saints fans to kid themselves that it was Pompey who sent us down, rather than look closer to home.

(PS. Wasn't it Palace who they sent down though, not Norwich?)

Fans will never move on. The club and police just have to make sure they make it safe for the vast majority of people not interested in this stuff to go the game in a safe but not sterile environment. Which it pretty much is these days.

It does happen I admit. But you wouldn't see it from southampton. Did our fans embarrass us in the game in 2010? no.

and before some comedian beats me to it the players did.

Oh no? The what about what happened after the Southampton/Millwall game in August last year? Both sets of supporters throwing stuff at each other, fighting with each other and having to be seperated by the police and parts of the streets around St. Mary's had to be blocked off to stop the two sets of fans from getting at each other.

13th February 2010 - TWO Saints fans who indulged in "violent and thuggish behaviour" when they attacked a Portsmouth fan have been banned from attending football games for five years.

    Here's the link.

Plenty more - from both sides I'm sure. Stones and glass houses and all that...............

I was at that match and it was mostly millwall. They kicked off at the end and and tried to bring down the barrier when we scored. Also they were chcking missiles for the whole gam.

There in no doubt there are plenty of people on both sides prepared to have a go. We are talking about a 600,000 population, of course some will be up for it.
