ANDY CARROLL WORTH £35M? NEVER, SAYS KEVIN KEEGAN

Kevin Keegan has told Liverpool that they paid way over the odds for Andy Carroll

KEVIN KEEGAN has told Liverpool that they paid way over the odds for Andy Carroll – and he reckons even Kenny Dalglish knows his record buy will never be worth £35 million.
Former England boss Keegan managed Carroll in his second spell at Newcastle and says the striker was not ready for his big-money move.
Carroll, 23, has scored only four league goals in a year at Liverpool since arriving as Fernando Torres’ replacement in a deal that made him the costliest Englishman of all time – and had another miserable afternoon yesterday as Liverpool went down 3-1 to relegation candidates Bolton Wanderers.
Anfield legend Keegan said: “He’s a decent player but he’s not a £35m player. If you’re paying £35m, you should be getting an instant, ready-made, world-class guy.
“When they bought (Luis) Suarez, he was a proven goalscorer at international level, who had won the Golden Boot with Ajax. He couldn’t have been more different to Andy Carroll.”
Keegan added: “If you asked Carroll if he thought that at this stage he’d be a £35m player for one of the biggest clubs in the world, he’d probably say no.
    He’s a decent player but he’s not a £35m player
    Kevin Keegan
“Liverpool paid such a big fee because of the Torres situation and they must have known, like I know and everyone else knows, that he’s not worth £35m and probably never will be.”
Keegan isn’t the only Liverpool legend to question the Carroll sale.
Dietmar Hamann, a Champions League winner during his seven years at Anfield, also questions the commitment and professionalism of Carroll, saying it is time for the Liverpool striker to start delivering.
Carroll has scored just six goals in 33 club matches over the past 12 months, before last night’s match at Bolton.
Former German international Hamann was annoyed at the striker’s apparent lack of professionalism during his 31-minute appearance in last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Stoke.

Speaking at the Football League headquarters in London, ahead of the Carling Cup semi-final second leg between his former clubs, Liverpool and Manchester City, Hamann, 38, said: “There was one incident against Stoke which annoyed me.
“He slipped three times and then he changed his boots, so he’s on the touchline for two minutes. This is a lack of professionalism. I had steam coming out of my ears. This isn’t acceptable.
“The club has shown tremendous faith in him by paying that money. Liverpool could have waited until the summer and got three players for that money. Kenny and the fans have shown tremendous faith. Now is the time to deliver.
“Does he want it badly enough? Liverpool fans see the potential in him, otherwise they may have given up the ghost, but if they do turn he may find it even harder to score.”
Hamann is also critical of Liverpool’s decision to wear T-shirts defiantly supporting Luis Suarez before the match at Wigan Athletic.
The Uruguayan striker is serving an eight-match suspension for allegedly using racist language to Manchester United’s Patrice Evra.
Hamman said: “The T-shirts were a bad move. I don’t see any reason to do that. Liverpool has always been known to stand by its players, which is the right thing.
“But did the club hear all the evidence before they put the T-shirts on? I don’t know whose idea it was. It sends out the wrong message.”
Despite the criticism of Carroll, the player’s former boss at Newcastle admits he feels sorry for the player.
Alan Pardew, who has been linked with a move to take Carroll back to Tyneside, said: “I really feel for Andy.
“Liverpool got £50m for Torres and they probably thought signing Andy for £35m was a good situation.
“It was a figure we could not refuse, but the price tag has hindered Andy. He’s a cracking player, and I was disappointed when Fabio Capello left him out of the England squad.
“But he will prove Capello wrong and be England’s number nine.”

35m ! it never ceases to amaze & astound me that someone sanctioned this deal ! the shock doesnt dull over time either ! It's been over a year & it Amazes me the more and more i think of it.

Is this commoli's work ? was dalglish consulted ? I'm not arrogant to think I know more about football than the scouts & people that sanction the deal's BUT who on earth would think spending 35m on an unproven player with no international pedigree, no touch, questionable character, no skill & who is also injured is a good idea/deal ?

Hats off to Newcastle, he was in demand at 25m and they STILL were turning down bids !! they played the greatest poker hand ever in world football, gambled on the river and won BIG.

The 35m would have been better spent on the Newcastle scoutng dept! What they would have done with the remaining 20m for downing, 20m on henderson & 9m on Adam would have probably resembled Arrigo Sacchi's Ac Milan team.

Put it this way, before Cisse was signed our entire first team was bought for about 36mill.

I took my 2 year old to the 'fun factory' (a play area with slides etc) the other day, they have a mini indoor pitch built into the play area. His first touch is nearly as good as Carroll's, I reckon when he's 4 it'll better than Carroll's.

It was a good match - although I won 10-0.

I'm pissed off with him tbh but I don't think we should sell him. Lucas was useless when he first came into the team and now he's a great player. What I would like is us to buy another striker so that Carroll has the pressure taken off him and we have someone who plays better than a 12 year old.

In time Carroll may become a very good player, I say lets wait and see.

I agree he has been useless for Liverpool however comments like these from Keegan do not help. AC will never be worth £35 million but hardly anyone is really. I did laugh at AC being useless but now it is just tragic. He clearly does not even want to be at the club. Cut your losses and sell him to someone else, at a vastly reduced price!

You might as well, you've got nothing else to lose. Nobody will be willing to pay even half for him so may as well keep him and if he comes good, great, if not, well I'm sure you can buy Adam Campbell in a few years for 30 mill.

    Hello Mate <ok>

Id be happy to cut our losses now and get anything from 8-12mil. Then get a huge humble pie delivered to Anfield for everyone to eat!
