Is Carroll the scousers equivalent of Forlan?

All United fans must remember Forlan who was a great striker before he joined us. But when he joined United something happened, he just forgot how to score. He missed chance after chance.

I saw Carroll play against Bolton yesterday. I couldn't believe how bad he was. He didn't look like a premiership striker never mind one costing £35 million! he hardly touched the ball and NEVER even once looked like he was going to score. What a great dilemma for the scousers: Do they persevere with him to give him confidence but then lose matches like Bolton or do they get rid of him and incur a massive loss? It is no one else's fault but Dalglish's who made the purchase.

At least with Forlan, we got his winners against the scousers to cherish. For that he'll always remain a hero for some of us... :emoticon-0100-smile And he is now playing great football in Spain, scoring lots of goals.

Is there any other United striker we could compare to Carroll? For those who go back a long way, would Gary Birtles and Peter Davenport come close?

Correct. Forlan during the last WC was very good. Can u ever imagine Carroll playing like that?

He's more the equivalent of Peter Davenport, looked the part in an ok team that was his level, we to a bigger club for a massively overinflated fee and was exposed for being what he is, average at best.

Forlan is world class in comparison to Carroll.

I think Forlan actually played well for United overall, he just couldn't find the net, he often beat 2 or 3 men then rifled a shot off the bar or post. Carroll on the other hand just looks like a passenger in every game he plays, no desire, no workrate, poor touch and terrible positioning.

This. Forlan was obviously short on confidence and struggling to adapt to the PL when he was with us. He still showed skill and talent, he just couldn't hit a barn door.

Carroll has no first touch, no pace, precious little skill and what natural talent he has is almost entirely wasted by Liverpool playing through balls and expecting him to turn into the next Torres. To be fair to Carroll, if he had some better players and goal scorers around him he'd probably do alright cos he showed decent ability to hold the ball up and link with players. I doubt he'll ever be more than a white Heskey, but then Heskey made a decent career out of being big and slow and distracting defences to allow better players to score. If Liverpool had a prolific striker Carroll might get the chance to do the same, but it says something that their most prolific striker this season is Bellamy!

The ultimate irony for the poor scousers must have been that he made Ngog, a player often derided by the scousers fans as not good enough, world class. Ngog controlled the ball well at the front, used the space, pass it to a colleague in a good position.

Carroll must be the worst striker in the premiership at the moment. I cannot see him improving at all as the pressure gets bigger and his confidence gets worse.

You cant compare the two really.

I know LFC fans will probably be riled by this, but the two were chalk and cheese

Forlan came from a foreign league and had other issues such as settling in time
    Carroll didnt

Forlan was a decent striker before he joined
I all honest Carroll wasnt even the best in the championship

Forlan has gone on to do well at a relatively big stage
    Carroll probably wont

You could compare him to Ali Dia for Southampton when Souness signed him.

Forlan was sought after across Europe before we signed him. Carroll was sought after across....never mind, he wasnt sought after. Newcastle woulda accepted 5mil in the summer, a million the summer before hahaha.

Anyway back to subject. I think Carroll is a good player, it's not his fault about the fee. It has unfortunately put pressure on him. Pressure he hasnt coped with very well.

Forlan is a world class player, he was the best player in the 2010 World Cup, Carroll is not in thr same league, and never will be.

I always felt we sold Forlan to soon, as he had started to score a few goals before his departure. I think he would have been a top class player for us, if given more time

Carroll was offered around the Championship for half-a-million in the 2008/2009 season. He even flopped at Preston North End during his loan spell there.

    Best bit of business ever.

Carroll out for £35million. Think it's 5 goals since he joined last January.

Ba in for free. 15 goals, and that's just this season <party>

Carroll may be the donkey of the premiership. But is it his fault if some fool paid £35 million to Newcastle for him?

That offer came from Dalglish the overrated manager who readily blames his players when things go wrong. He needs to look in the mirror for the person to blame. Can we imagine Roy doing worse in the premiership or mishandling the situation like Dalglish did the Suarez fiasco? will anyone ever forget that T-shirt debacle which Dalglish was SO proud of?

Think most people forget Torres had just left us and we needed forwards. Suarez paid off and Carroll didn't... end of.

If Roy had bought Carroll he would have been crucified no end. We would have had all the scousers fans calling for his dismissal for his lack of judgement. Because it was Dalglish, they think they should stay quiet. But Dalglish the fool is seriously losing it. He is totally lost on what system to play to make better use of Carroll. When i see Carroll in the teamsheet, I know the scousers are going to struggle...

Actually Suarez was signed before Torres jumped ship. Do not think for one moment Suarez was signed to partner Carroll.
