Much better performance today in comparison to either the Newcastle or the MK Dons game. We chased down every ball, never gave up and for once looked sound both at the back and going forward.

Kenny 7 – had very little to do, when called upon controlled the defence and was only beaten by truly great free kick

Young 8 – once again a good performance from Young who is quietly turning into the new Faurlin. Looked bright up the wing and never let Wigan’s strikers have a chance on goal.

Ferdinand 6 – overall a good performance looked slightly shaky but did look more comfortable with Hall as hi partner.

Hall 6 – very little wrong, very little required to do. Arguably one of his best performances in a QPR shirt.

Hill 6 – was able to play high line today and looked comfortable going forward. Slightly outpaced on occasion by Wigan’s strikers but never looked to be in much trouble.

Barton 5 – judging by his comments during the week, Barton doesn’t think he’s responsible for the slide down the performance and yet on this performance and several others this season he might want to take another look. Barton didn’t have a particularly bad game but misplaced a few passes and looked a little bit lost on occasion without Faurlin as his safety valve. Crosses and general deadball play from him was abysmal.

Wright Phillips 5 – continues to disappoint, got in plenty of good positions but as usual looked like a deer-caught-in-the-headlights when required to run at players or when put through

Buzsaky 9 MOTM– great performance from Buz, looked to be back to his old self and fully deserved his goal. Was the sole reason behind us looking dangerous from set pieces for the first time this season.

Mackie 8 – typical industrious performance from Mackie, chased down balls could have possibly had a goal but didn’t really test al-habsi. Continually caused Wigan problems

Campbell 4 – poor performance, wasn’t really in the game and never threatened, needs more time in the reserves to get himself upto speed

Helguson 8.5 – lead the line in typical fashion. Deserved his goal and continually chased down balls. However he might want to leave the long range shooting to smith and buzsaky.

Smith 8 – kept forcing Wigan back with counter-attacks and what a goal to seal the win. Only possible complaint would be that he occasionally runs into trouble on the wing and looks better playing in the centre just behind the forwards.

    Derry n/a

The Manager: Hughes 9 - tactics were spot on, force Wigan under pressure, get a goal to encourage the crowd and to finally play man coverage in defence. Subs were effective and all round performance can’t be faulted.

Referee 8 – for the first time in a few months nothing contentious went against us. Both penalties were penalties and he controlled the game well not giving out stupid cards. Refereed the game with common sense which is not something that can be said for most that we have had this season.

Pretty fair assessment that sooperdooper. I would also add the fans into that and give us a 9!
Buz was fantastic today, got a great reception from us when he came over to take a corner.
Thought the 'Thank you Neil Warnock' song was a nice touch as well.

Perhaps because Buz played so well, and because Joey got the yellow, it made Joey look even worse as Buz just took hold of the midfield and outplayed everybody.

SWP did provide the ball in the proper moment to release Smith who was totally free to be able to smack one which promptly hit the back of the net. So SWP is aware, he played a team game today, in my opinion, he didn't try to do his fancy tricks which usually end up sad. So I'll give SWP 6.

Oh and I thought DJ did OK, he did put himself in a couple of good positions and he won us a good free kick, and was in the area hunting a lot, so I'd give DJ a 6 also. He still needs to get his instincts back, for sure he is still a bit off. But nonetheless I enjoyed seeing him out there.

I'd swop the points you gave Barton and Mackie, Barton won a lot of ball and was all over midfield, great box to box performance for me. Mackie worked hard as usual, had one great run where he refused to give up, but never looked a threat to me. I'd reduce Anton a bit due his mistakes, one which nearly gave Rodeyaga another goal when he let the ball go over his head, and give Hall one more for a nearly faultless display - 2 in a row now for Onesize! Buz was brilliant! Both Young and Clint looked slow especially going forward, but solid as the whole team defensively.

Although Im looking at Barton through hatred-tinted glasses I did genuinely think he was pretty poor yesterday. His rolling on the ground winded me up and I can remember 3 awfully over hit passes.

To be honest it made me enjoy the win even more. Great performance from an old favourite Buz and people not constantly moaning at Hall. Also HH got another goal which always makes me happy and Tommy Smith!! Who knew he had a rocket like that.

Im a happy happy man today.

Kenny 6 Ferdinand 8 Hall 7 Hill 7 Young 7 Buszacky 9 Barton 8 SWP 8 Mackie 6 Helguson 7 DJ Cambell 6 (Smith 8 Derry no time to analyze) Kenny get 6 cos he freezes in Rodallegas freekick and he didn't have much to do in the match anyway.....

Unfortunately, I couldn't watch the game online (too much going on elsewhere). From what I saw in the edited highlights on MOTD, they looked very dangerous early on from the left wing and our central defenders were spared their blushes by a mixture of good fortune and Wigan's lack of bravery to go for it. Was Barton even playing? I must have missed his significant contribution. Glad for Buz. Especially as some of you had lost faith in him. Our best attacking optio is Traore, Buz, Adel and SWP in midfield He may not take people on but he does contribute with some telling passes occasionally. i still believe that once he scores we will see a different player. Supporting any 2 of 4 forwards in the following order of preference. Helguson, Mackie, DJ. and then Betty.

Did I leave any one out? Oh yes. Dear Joey. By my reckoning he has at most 3 weeks to earn a place in our team before Adel and Traore return from their holiday.

    Mackie 8, SWP 5, Barton 5, DJ 4

I only saw Football First but I got a completely different impression. For me:

    Mackie 6, SWP 6.5, Barton 6, DJ 6

Agree apart from a 4 for Barton maybe seeing all the scores and 6 for SWP and Mackie plus extra point for Fitz Hall as they had plenty to do at times but they just did it very well that is the Hughes factor

The reason I gave Mackie a 8 was because of his performance based upon the role he plays in the team. He's not there to be a skillful player and make chances, he's there to run at defence and force them into problems. Every team has to have players like that the same way that season when we had Taarabt to take around defenders, we needed Derry to mop up any loose balls that came to him. Mackie did well at hs job yesterday, continually chasing down lot balls or harrassing defenders. Whilst his crosses weren't great, he was there to win corners and force mistakes, something he did well.
SWP on the other hand is one of the skill players, did not play well judging by what he was supposed to do. He routinely ran into trouble going down the wing, often only being able to force a corner. His rare runs through onto goal (which are rare, because he hesitates so much or his touch plays the ball so far ahead ,the chance is gone) didnt end in a shot once. As for the Smith goal, yes it was selfless or him to play Smith across into spacce, yet when played in originally by Smith himself, he was on a 1 v 2 situation on the halfway line. That should be no trouble for an 'international player'. Yet he froze, found himself surrounded and laid it off. Hence a 5.
Barton didnt have that poor a game. Yet often he mishit passes or lost possession in the middle of the park. His crosses in from both free kicks and corners can only really be described as abysmal. I dont think any QPR player actually ever got a chance at goal from one of his corners. Hence as one of the players who made more mistakes, he gets a 5.
As for Campbell, anonymous is the only way I could really describe his performance. I cant really remember a chance he had and when I did see him, he looked a long way off match fitness.

Harsh on DJ. He showed some good turns and touches I thought. Anyone know if it was a tactical substitution to being on Smith at half time? Perhaps Cambell picked up a dead leg from that challenge that lead to Buz's wonder goal?

Think I heard MH say DJ had tweaked a hamstring. He blew the one good chance I remember him getting.

Thought dj did alright. Was playing a little behind HH for most of the first and linked up well. Couple more matches needed but would always have him over Bothroyd!
