The only thing he did was win a corner at the end. The entire match he made the worst passes nobody could get to, and then Luke Young made a lovely tackle on him to make him tumble over <laugh>

MOTM Buz, and a great goal from my favourite player Tommy Smith, a wonder goal that's sure to boost his confidence and cement his place in the squad.

Once Adel comes back we don't need Joey. Derry can come in for Buz at the end of every match if we do exactly as we did today.

DJ still looked lethargic. But I think he was playing out of position again. Which surprises me as Hughes was a striker and he should know better.

Mackie - what does the man do?

We should be playing 4-3-3 or close to it. It should be Smith-HH-Bothroyd (or Mackie, I suppose) up front, with Adel-Buz-SWP in the middle, with our backline as it is with today's boys and the new signings mixing it up. Taiwo can play midfield as well so he could probably come in for SWP or Adel if we play somebody else in defense in the future.

However - my gosh Wigan were dreadful. They were slower than us and I thought we lacked pace!

Think you are off the mark with Joey. Thought he put in a good shift today mate. Lets be honest, he is not the world beater he thinks he is but he played pretty well today.

Well I think Barton's tackle outside our own area set up our counter attack for the 3rd goal. Not his best game by far but certainly not his worst. He does wind me up with his mouth but I hope if/when we get some more quality signings it'll up his game.

Yappy i agree with you to an extent about joey, but 4-3-3 with buz del and swp !!!! We would never win the ball back!! too narrow and it ultimately always reverts to a 4-5-1 just to gain width.

I don't think I'm off. He seriously made some poor passes up field, too hard and too fast for anybody to be able to reach them, and he did it at least 3 times when we had chances to slide the striker on the move. Then he promptly got the yellow card and he went into a shell.

Can't we just enjoy the win, for FIVE f***in' minutes???

We should try to let this Joey/Neil saga die a slow death. Not pour gasoline on the fire at every oppurtunity.

Joey didn't perform any worse than the likes of Young, Ferdinand, SWP and Mackie who all warranted a mark of 6 in the ratings.

What next, a thread to slate Adel for being away on international duty? <doh>

Just an idea. I say 4-3-3, but that's just to keep it more attack minded, but I know we have to be able to fall back and tackle. But, at the same time, if our new, strong, backline boys can hold their own, we can try to play a bit more keep-ball in the middle, pass it round, and attack more. And pass it round up front instead of trying to lob it over all the time. Close-quarter movement and through balls.

Think yappy, like NW, has a blind spot when it comes to certain players. Agree with the rest though. You forgot to praise MH....

Watched the game online and was impressed with the WHOLE team. All had their job to do and did it well as we won 3-1 at HOME... get in. Now lets get behind every player and as Norway has said let it die. NW and JB are as bad as each other in regards to using the media to their own end.

My daughters and I are buzzing after this win and this was without any reinforcements..... come on you rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr*breathes in*rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr's

Nah..... I love NW. I don't know about MH. That was Wigan, man, just Wigan. Lets see how it goes in the next 2 to 3 weeks. If we even get draws and hold our own with a few goals, then I'd be really impressed. But today - that was like a practice match. MH got lucky that he came in when he did. But the free kicks were crazy. But you have to admit that shot by Smith was da bomb.

6? I would give Young at least 7. Ferdinand really didn't have much to do, as Wigan never really attacked us down the middle, and Anton doesn't really make it look flamboyant like Gabbidon does. SWP did well - he actually made the good pass to Smith who promptly blasted it into the top corner! Mackie...... well what can you say about the geezer...... he needs to get down lower to his legs and stop running over the ball.

Adel? Yeah well if he plays well in the ACN and then comes back and mopes around getting fat, then yes I will slate him.... as well as MH, for not being able to motivate him. But we'll see about that, won't we?

There you have it ... It was our biggest match of the season so far .. he knew that and still looked very very very average Don't tell me in any form that was a performance worthy of a QPR Captain ... In fact after that personal showing albeit he ids QPR I would say he is possibly the worst QPR captain of all time.
BARTON prove me wrong i challenge you! You are simply nowhere as good as you think you are and the clock is ticking

If that's the way you view a game then you're not any better than tha lazy bas***** on MOTD, watch the highlights and that's it right?

The whole midfield performed as a unit to a pleasant change from NW's days. There was a correlation between our midfield and defence when it comes to pressure players, and every one to a man knew how to play their individual zones. A well drilled performance, much thanks to Mark Hughes and his team.

Exactly this. We looked very very solid today.

If Joey Barton scored a hat-trick against Chelsea and cured cancer on the same day there would be people slagging him off on here.

Good team performance, great result, decent individual performance from Barton.

In my mind J Barton was one of our better players last night. Certainly he is much better than Derry and did win many 50/50 balls yesterday. He is our captain ,a controversial one perhaps but very important player in our fight against relegation. Stop slagging him every opportunity you get because its like you were kicking to your own ankle..........
