Might have found an unpublished masterpiece in the loft that was worth a mint? Lol Weller is the greatest song writer of his generation imo but for me, the Jam was so much a part of my early years growing up, that he never surpassed it. I play their stuff as much today as I did 30 odd years ago.
Too many punky / new wave posts on here ! Here's one for the rockers among us - my first gig was probably Ted Nugent at Newcastle Mayfair around 1977-78 - but could equally have been Dio or Saxon at the City Hall; it's all so long ago now I'd have to check all the ticket stubs I keep to confirm it !
Guns N Roses at Gateshead stadium about 1990 I think. Faith No More and Soundgarden supporting. Makes me feel young compared to you codgers ;-) Any of you seen Al Jolson live?
Anyone remember 'The Showbizz Kids' that were a big attraction in the pubs and clubs of Sunderland in the late 1970's? I really thought they would have made it to the top, but it just didn't happen for them for some reason.
First gig was an all night rave, if that counts at York racecourse in 1990/91. The prodigy, before they were big, Bizarre Inc, The Hypnotist, Altern8, N Joi, Carl Cox, Joey Beltram,T99, Sl2, GTO, Utah Saints, etc etc. It was a brilliant brilliant night and probably still the best night of my life, it was the beginning of a love affair of dance music, Djing and drugs. Quality. Mons mush will know what I'm talking about.
Are you a Wallsend boy Froggy? I thought I would be the only one on here. As a young lad trying to impress a rocker girl I was seeing, my first gig was Rainbow at Newcastle City Hall - couldn't hear for a week afterwards!!
Ditto, feel like im being groomed rather than discussing football on a forum! Think mine was Muse at the arena, absolutely phenominal.
Nah lived in the Shetlands at the time and my Big Uncle Robin took me and my brother so was staying at my Nana's house in Nothumberland St. She was originally a South Sheilds lass but for some reason decided to move North of the river that's when my uncle went over to the dark side.
I was at that gig to Bumble ****ing classic Guns where good but it was the first time I'd heard Faith No More and they Blew me away.
Lucky lucky man Riever ! Was this the Dio fronted line-up ? Blackmore's my all time hero (musically at least) !
Seen them a few times in various clubs. Think they were asked to go to London to sort a deal out but to many in house arguements. Agree i thought they would have made it.
That'll just be me then - I grew up around the corner from Northumberland Street near the police station, which was handy being the only Sunderland fan in a black and white town
