I didn't write off the entire genre. Frankly it's true that overall it is of miserable quality in comparison to its glory days, ie. there is far,far less good music to be found than there once was. I have a decent collection of modern releases, some of which are good <ok>.

It's a shame what Strange Music have turned into, and a shame that Prozak has went back to them to get his albums out. On a better note, Prozak - Paranormal drops on 24/4/12 <diva>

Spot on here, the essence of hip hop is the passion and fire that it was borne of. It's this that it has lost over time and it won't regain unfortunately, something new will evolve instead, of course.

Classic hip hop is good, it's people overcoming adversity, and pieces about hardship, and how to take on life. Modern hip hop is basically just a bragging contest. Heres my effort.

"Yo, Yo mic check, i got 50 ho's and loads of blow, 22" spinners and i spin em slow" I'm suprised Nile Ranger hasn't thought of this.

Punk should have died in the 80's, we're too civilised for it to be considered aunthentic these days.

<ok> Yep. It's very hard for musical forms to stand the test of time really, they have to be extraordinarily unique in themselves so that they can evolve into new styles while still retaining their own definition and not becoming something new.

I would say that hip-hop has done this though, there's such a wide spectrum of good hip-hop to be found if you're willing to pan through the **** to find the gold.

It still exists, you just have to look a little harder to find it.
    For instance:

You'd be there for weeks looking for something good. Why not just listen to the old stuff? Or make up your own? All you need is a tape recorder and a generic backing track.

Yes, but Punk has lost it's credibility in my eyes. It was brought about as sticking it to the man, rebelling, yet most of those people singing about fighting the man, actually ended up embracing it. The most hypocritical music type around.
