Mcclean and Larsson, serious question: Are they? or will they be better? as good as? johnstone and summerbee?
To early to say mate, and also Quinn made Johnson and Summerbee's job easier by having the knack of getting on the end of everything.
2b fair the 2 wingers are McClean and Sessegnon With MoN we aint going to see the 4/4/2 used more 4/3/3 and play on the counter
It's an unfair question. Legends are built in a peculiar way. Does anyone remember the season Phillips screwed up so many penalties, he wouldn't take any more? Of course not - we remember what we want to remember. Johnstone and Summerbee - forget them. The bottom line is Larsson and McClean are the best we've got now. And they're damned good. I'm glad we've got them.

MoN likes to play a counter attacking 4/3/3 with his wide men/wingers shoved right up the pitch so they can get up and support the striker something which we have never seen before as we have always played with the lone striker in a negative formation not an attacking one as MoN uses it as. I see Larsson's role as in the central midfield 3 and not as a winger and that's were he has played of late for me our wingers are McClean, Sessegnon and Campbell. Think he will use Campbell like he did with Agbonlahor at Villa in one of the wider roles with Sess playing the (Ashley Young) free role and being allowed to roam around abit. our best options IMO. ------ Larsson -- Cattermole -- Vaughan/Rico ----- Sess/Campbell --- Bendtner -------- McClean/Sess In the summer if not now would like to see us add another player who can play on the left of the front 3 as well as someone who can drive forward from the midfield and not forgetting about the main man up top A team who play this formation as MoN likes to is Germany, if we can get the balance right like they do (obv. we aint going to be as good) then we will certainly climb the table.
how's it an unfair question?[/QUOTE] I didn't mean you any offence, Murray. But legends are players who are remembered without the bad bits. Modern players are seen with warts, and all. Did Stanley Matthews ever have a bad game - ooooh, noooooo, of course not. It's not true. I remember Len Shackleton playing a few absolute stinkers - but that wouldn't suit the legend, now would it?
JOHNSTON NEVER PLAYED IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE FOR US! So even on McCleans ealry form he get's it for me as he is starting out in the prem. Also Johnston had a better full back behind him. Summerbee V Larrson, interesting and it would be close.
not being picky tony but johnston made his debut in the premier league at newcastle in a 1-1 draw and played another 6 games before we were relegated at selhurst park v wimbledon, i agree he had a better full back behind him like
i think alan johnstone's greatness is a bit of a myth he desstroyed many championship players but never did it in the premier failed at Rennes, Boro and rangers. He has Gray to help and he was not one of our greatest players during that perriod. Hutchinson, schawze, bould, summerbee, quinn, phillips, gray, sorenson, Ball were all more important. This was shown when he left still finished 7th and got a certain Julio Arca to replace who i remember being superb in his first season.
