*thought i better put one in that was nice and as for the ones i've mentioned some of the places it's been a few years since i've been and they might have changed but i bloody doubt it.

Sorry lads, but it's ridiculous to say Leeds is a ****hole. If Leeds is a ****hole, there simply isn't enough words in the dictionary to describe Newcastle.
That sounds blasphemous, but it's not meant as such, just to emphasise the fact that Leeds is nice, it's actually really similar in Newcastle in regard to have kept its old buildings (unlike the likes of Sunderland) and had a lot of regeneration.
Also you don't find a Harvey Nicks in the toon, or Luis Vuitton and the ilk either!

everywhere has their good parts and bad parts.

I lived in Blyth for 30 years, we got voted the worst town in England by the Today Newspaper in the late 80`s, but i still loved it there, now Ashington is a **** hole, I was a community warden there for a while, walking up and down the miners cottages trying to find some path and no dog crap was a trick in itself, but again it did have 1 or 2 nice areas.

Orlando is lovely, if you stick to the disney parts, go off the beaten track though and its like south africa in the 80`s, lots of shanty towns, and seperation, I even seen a dog with 3 legs shuntering about outside a garage (no idea why that sticks in my head i just found it a bit funny at the time, and its what you see in films most of the time for poor neighborhoods), lots of crappy cheap hotels with all the porn you can watch for free, and free jacuzzi in a room signs all over the place.

Some places are worse than others but it all depends where you go in that particular city, the center may be gorgeous but the suburbs not so.

PS: I live just south of boro now, been here for 8 years, and its not that bad, the toon has a better nightlife but other than that, there isnt a lot of difference tbh.

The ugliest places I've probably been to are Newbiggin by the sea, Skegness (two places that used to be seaside resorts and now are a bit tacky and rundown), Preston, half of Sheffield (they seemed to blow their budget on the bit by the train station & their rip-off of the Metro Centre, Meadowhall), parts of Manchester, parts of London & Colchester is a bit ****.

I live in Swansea. As a city, it's a craphole, especially the area from the train station down to the City Centre. Dylan Thomas called it the 'Ugly Beautiful City'. When they made the film Twin Town they updated this with a more accurate 'Pretty ****ty City'. As with many cities, the Luftwaffe didn't break the soul of the people, it was the town planners that came afterwards that did that - Swanseas never recovered from bring concreted in the '60s. It's a shame. coz we're surrounded by some of the most stunning beaches and countryside you'll find anywhere. My description of Swansea and the surrounds would be a dog-turd surrounded by icing sugar.

i did say some parts of leeds as is some parts of Newcastle (scotswood, benwell, byker to name a few) but i guess you could say that about most big cities and maybe i should have said i went there during the 80's .
i did put 'and as for the ones i've mentioned some of the places it's been a few years since i've been and they might have changed' and was going of my experience being there at a certain time i mean during the 80's most of Newcastle was a ****hole and nothing like it is today

the article did say - In your travels as a supporter over the years

    Boro- just yak!

As a student living in Headingley, Leeds is rather grim in most parts, Horsfoth and out towards Harrogate is pretty nice though.

It's also recently been announced that Headingley is one of the most burgled areas in Britain, this would make sense as we were burgled about a month ago!

The people in St.Peters, Byker think it's rather posh. I know the main drag on the way to Brough Park is a bit dire though.

Leeds in the late 70's and 80's was pretty awful, not a patch on Newcastle at the time, it's better now but still not as good as the Toon

Don't worry mate, far from offended - I just don't think it's a ****hole, it's a lot like the other major cities in the North and I think Newcastle & Leeds are very similar styles of cities imo, which works well considering where I'm from! Mainly just thinking of the city centre or near a stadium if I've been to a match there though as a rule of thumb, residential areas anywhere are a different kettle of fish!

    I beg your Pardew
Which part of Headingley do you live though? There's the student ghetto part and a really posh, really expensive part especially as you get towards far headingley and down to Meanwood, where there's a gem of a Waitrose near an Aldi (great for doing a big shop in Aldi and getting your bits at Waitrose!).
I'm surprised at Headingley being worst like, Hyde Park & Burley I was told by my car insurance company a year or so ago are worse for break ins & car theft than Headingley.
Doesn't matter as I moved out of the student area last May, was sick of paying rent on second rate properties - you had to concede that there was always going to be at least one thing wrong with the house! Suprisingly easy to get a flat anywhere else on a professional let, almost moved into the penthouse in one of the new skyscrapers that is shooting up for the same rent per month as a student house, just needed a guarrantor (but you need one for most student digs now anyway!).
Ended up moving to New Wortley, closer to town than hyde park, cheaper rent & a new build opposite a little park, beginning to wish I'd taken up my parents' offer of buying a house to rent out for me and my mates in second year now though as I'd be able to buy it off them once I'd got a job (didn't want to leave the student area at the time though)!
