Weird that it took so long. I still think if at the end of the season we're promoted and Hooper has his SPL winner's medal in the bag, that there might still be more to come, but I guess that's that for now. Wonder who plan B might be...
Probably won't be Rhodes, although I wouldn't be surprised if we had made a discreet inquiry. Sharp doesn't seem to want to leave Donny at the moment. Cheeky loan bid for Michael Owen perhaps?
Adkins said something along the lines of - 'We're not worried as we have other good strikers here already' Implying there might not be any more business?
One opinion from Matt Stranger (Sky Sports Website) Top ten to avoid in the transfer window (for the EPL) Any striker from the SPL - Nikica Jelavic, Gary Hooper, Jon Daly; all three have been linked with moves to the Premier League this month, but despite the trio's goalscoring feats north of the border, it would be an unwise move to pin your hopes on any of them. The standard of football in the SPL has declined rapidly over the past few years to the stage where strikers aren't poaching goals against Championship-level defences, rather finding themselves untested against quality befitting League One - browsing the Scottish market is a risky business. This has been well talked about here so no need to dwell any further on the subject. Do we really need another striker anyway? Should we be more worried about bolstering our defense?
Listen St. Slicks, if we bolster our defence, we'll start getting clean sheets and then be promoted by the beginning of March. That won't be very exciting, so best we carry on winning games 3-1 or 3-2
I wouldn't be surprised if we Signed a striker on loan till the end of the season and then we went for hooper again in the summer.
Hoopers a very good player (said he would be a good target a few months ago) but we dont need another striker, we have two of the leagues top strikers a international striker and also barnard and connelly who are both good players IMO we're fine for strikers.
He said something along the lines off: - Celtic made the offer public which is not how we do things - "I would have thought not" when asked about any chance of a move. Due to what they've said about not wanting to sell him. - "We score more than anyone else in the division" as it is "so some people would suggest we don't need another striker"
That's pushing it slightly. He certainly patted out most of the fire, but he didn't confirm anything. "I would have thought not" were his words.
It was good stuff..typical Nigel. He confirmed that we had been interested in Hooper, but Celtic had said no and he didn't think there was any chance of him coming here. Also said, with a smile, that some people thought we didn't need another striker with our scoring record (hope he didn't mean Cortese). Mentioned that he was excited about Tadanari. Said that we'd had a slight negative period due to injuries (think he meant losses). His win ratio at Saints is 67%...the interviewer remarked that 40% was considered quite good.
Barnard is injured, and Connolly is injured prone. Guly isn't an out and out striker. Lee may or may not turn to be good; he may or may not settle quickly. But even if he does go and tick both of those boxes, I still think we need another striker. Top draw striker = automatic promotion highly likely. No top draw striker = play-offs highly likely.
Agreed, plus Barny could be playing prison football soon. Not knocking Connolly he is class when fit.
Sorry how do you know that? Anyway from his comments today doesnt sound like their will be anymore strikers comming in.
Just my opinion, it has dragged on far to long now. With court changes etc seems like they have been stalling for time. The fact he had his hand bandaged for months afters kinda suggests he was involved somehow. Have the other 2 involved pleaded guilty?. I know one was charged with assault and battery.
Adkins smiled as he said that there are some that say we don't need another striker...wouldn't take that at face value. My guess is that they are still looking.
