One of the men accused of murdering two soldiers at Massereene Barracks in Antrim has been found guilty on all charges.

Brian Shivers, 46, from Magherafelt was convicted of the murders of Mark Quinsey, 23, and Patrick Azimkar, 21.

The soldiers were shot dead as they collected pizza in March 2009.

Shivers' co-accused, Colin Duffy, 44, from Lurgan was acquitted of murdering the two soldiers on Friday morning.

Judge Anthony Hart told Antrim Crown Court that he was satisfied that Mr Duffy's DNA was found on a latex glove tip inside the car and on a seat buckle but he said the prosecution had failed to link the defendant to the murder plot.

He said: "I consider that there is insufficient evidence to satisfy me beyond reasonable doubt that whatever Mr Duffy may have done when he wore the latex glove, or touched the seatbelt buckle, meant that he was preparing the car in some way for this murderous attack. And I therefore find him not guilty."

The soldiers were the first to be murdered in Northern Ireland since Lance Bombardier Stephen Restorick was killed by an IRA sniper in 1997.

Mark Quinsey and Patrick Azimkar had been due to travel to Afghanistan hours after they were they were murdered.

The dissident republican group, the Real IRA, claimed responsibility for the attack, which left several others injured.

The Real IRA was born out of a split in the mainstream Provisional IRA in October 1997, when the IRA's so-called quartermaster-general resigned over Sinn Fein's direction in the peace process.

It carried out the worst single atrocity of over 30 years of violence in Northern Ireland when it bombed the County Tyrone town of Omagh, killing 29 people, in August 1998.

What a joke! At least they got one of them that will die in jail.

They've been trying to stitch him up for nearly 20 years now.

He should start sueing them when they nick him like that black guy did when the police kept pulling him over <ok>

So a Judge considers all of the evidence and declares he cant find him Guilty

Yet you, who have probably read the odd story here and there, know beyond all reasonable doubt it was him

What happened to Colin Duffy was no less than internment. There was as much chance of me being found guilty of plugging them two Brits than there was of Duffy being found guilty. Now they have a very embittered Colin Duffy on their hands.

    Oh dear.

Innocent men's finger prints aren't usually found in the getaway car of terrorists after a murder spree.

Also when he was first lifted why did supporters of his stand outside the police station and cheer as he was brought out.

Why would you line up to cheer a man days after he's lifted for murder!?!

Yes for 20 years they have deliberately picked on 1 catholic republican to pin the blame on <doh>

Or he is in fact some sort of dick and even if he wasn't involved in 1 or 2 murders if hes been implicated in more than 1 murder chances are he has been involved in some way before.

So what about the Birmingham Four? Judges CAN get it wrong you know.

Thankfully there was no death penalty at that time.

Doesnt prove guilt either though does it

As for the cheering - maybe they cheered the release of an innocent man following the injustice of being lifted for a crime he did not commit
