I see what you are getting at but looking at the sides still in the Europa League (not even counting the sides that started in it but have been knocked out) there are still a fair few sides I reckon Southampton would give a game to. Perhaps you should watch the quality of play Southampton have displayed this season before casting judgement on the fact we are in the Championship. We'd compete with any side in the Prem outside the current top 6 or 7.
And how many goals a season did the legendary Alan Shearer average whilst at Southampton? You guessed it, under 9 a season. He scored a magnificent 23 league goals in 118 games - an impressive ratio of (just under) 1 in every 5 games. I guess that proves you have to move to big clubs to fulfil your potential.
At least you do recognise that we are "World Famous", unfortunately you don't seem to comprehend why, it has nothing to do with the number of titles we have won and I find your ignorance staggering, or at least I would had I not read all you fellow window lickers' similary ignorant and parochial comments.
Says the guy who has been slating the SPL, Scottish teams and the Scottish national team. You're both an arrogant **** and a complete hypocrite. I guarantee that you know S.F.A about S.F.A
Yep we beat Juve, Man Utd, Barca, Liverpool, Milan because we can stroll though games every week, the opposition just lie down & let us play at 60% How many of Suttons game were as a midfielder for Celtic? He very often played behind Henke & Hartson or even as a orthodox centre mid..........even centre back sometimes!
I'm getting all nostalgic for Sutton now. One of my favourite goals of his - notable for a 'burst of pace' from Lennon in the build-up
European Heavyweights right enough.....
Jesus, is there something in the water in Scotland. Judging by that theory, Chris Sutton scored a world-class, earth-shattering 1 goal in 28 games for Chelsea. In case you are stuggling to do the maths, thats an impressive ratio of 1 in every 28 games.
By current EPL maths with Torres worth £50mil and Carroll £35mill, that makes Sutton a £500bagillionzillion player with a club he hardly started for with a manager he didn't get on with and a formation that didn't suit. For the love of ****
I'm not slating the quality of the Premier League. Just saying Southampton are good enough to compete in it.
Are you just ****ing thick or are you at the wind up? Plenty of quality players have failed to settle at clubs depsite being a huge success elsewhere, just off the top of my head, have you ever heard of Ian Rush? He lasted a season at Juve, does that make him a dud?
Face facts, Shearer was a good player but Southampton were too small a club for him to realise his potential, hence his poor goal-scoring record there over a period of five seasons. Regards Sutton, everyone knows he had one bad season at Chelsea dumbo. It's been mentioned quite a few times (including by me). How about the season he was top scorer in the EPL when at Blackburn? Or when he scored 25 EPL goals in one season for Norwich? Or when he won the EPL?
I think you are forgetting when we were in the Premier League (similar era to when you were beating those teams) we used to routinely turn over the likes of Man Utd, Arsenal, Newcastle, Chelsea, Liverpool etc... The difference is I don't use these examples to try and justify we are a great club. I know Southampton's place and find it embarrassing for you that you don't seem to know Celtic's place in the scheme of things.
