How does this make fellow CAFC supporters feel ? Is their a charitable angle to it that will silence the critics ? http://www.southlondon-today.co.uk/Sport.cfm?id=2285&headline=Exclusive: Clive Mendonca auctions Charlton medals
It's a very sad story. I imagine these are the items that he would never have wanted to auction off.. But I guess he's needing to do so now. It would be nice if the club bought some and put on display somewhere.
Very sad. I thought Sir Clive had sold off his medals a couple of years back ? Is there anything we can do? - Chrissy was mentioning a shirt sponsorship some time back - how about we buy Clives shirt or something and then give it to club in perpetuem(?) . Website is www.mendoncacollection.com I havnt looked at it, as its banned at work, but will have a look when i get home tonight
http://www.mendoncacollection.com/ It's because his wife is setting up a business, so at least it's for a positive outcome hopefully. It's interesting that Steve Jones is organising it, does he work in that field now?
Stevie Jones last I heard had a memorabilia shop so could be the reason. Cant see why Charlton cant buy the match ball and keep it in storage, maybe one day they can setup a small museum at the Valley covering our History, this would easily be included surely?
Terribly sad - mentioned this sort of scenario on the Fortune thread, but didn't expect it to surface again so soon.
I have made a bid for some items. If I am successful, I will keep them for a maximum of one year, then either offer them back to Clive or have them put on display at The Valley - if they will have them, that is. It would be wrong, in my opinion, to deprive other fans from enjoying such prized items.
I agree Ponders. As i said, I intend to bid for some items once i can see what they are, and intend to offer them back to the club for display in maybe the Main Entrance.
Dunno, but i've just put a bid in for it. The thing about this, is that its bound to go on National press, and this will likely interest non-Charlton fans to buy for profit making reasons. We HAVE to keep this 'in-the-family'. How about we (NOT606ers) buy it? - and then donate it to the club ?
I think you'll find it will go for a LOT more than that, my understanding is that Steve Jones's medal went for circa 3k - so Sir Clives will be more than that. Thats another reason why we need to club together to buy this.
ok, then my £150 wont go anywhere lol i hope whoever gets it puts it somewhere that everyone can see it.
yeah, i keep getting emails saying that my bid for something is too low and to look at the price on the drop down. the drop downs say lower than i bid tho. it aint being updated quick enough my gf's gonna kill me if she finds out i'm bidding on this stuff lol
Hey Chrissy, what about the idea of NOT606 bidding for the medal (or something else) . ? I am quite prepared to put the 190 pounds i won yesterday plus another tenner to total 200 pounds towards a NOT606 combined bid - i'm sure if we have enough like-minded people, then we could put together a serious bid.
Just thought id let you all know that Mr Slater said on Charlton Live that the club would 'look into' the possibility of buying Sir Clives medals.
