What if the person comes here with the offer of a job and the job falls through or the company goes bust? Shall we just throw them on the street and leave them to fend for themselves?
Australia also had a "whites only" immigration policy for years - the details of massacres in Australia carried out by Brits (mainly Scots, to be honest) are pretty appalling. please log in to view this image I suspect some GC posters would see this as "noble".
They shouldn't be allowed to get benefits until the have paid into the coffers for a set period of time..end of.
Well they do to a degree.. for a start they are very strict as to who gets a visa there.. ie x amount of cash in the bank and a job offer and to get residency they only pick people with a certain skill set.. As far as I am aware if you moved there then lost your job in 6 weeks you dont get any benefits of any sort.. You will either have to come back or find a job for the period of your visa. A mate of mine is off over there on a 6 month visa in a month and he is having to be essentially sponsored to be there.
Most reasonable people would probably agree with this. Including, I imagine, most immigrants, because most of them come here looking for work and the chance to improve their lives. You can't blame a person for that, in fact anyone who ups sticks and travels a thousand miles to find work is probably a damn good bet for any employer. Thing is, it's plain wrong, and dangerous, to label the majority of immigrants as scroungers just because of a very small minority.
Because Australians were racist in 1923, we British should give benefits to anyone who comes to our country? Can't see that policy going down too well with the voters.
But that's not the issue we're talking about here. I was talking about people coming here with the promise of a job.
Maybe the responsibility should be placed with the employers, if they want to get cheap labour from abroad, offer them a job, then renege, they should pay their benefits for 6months and if they can't find another job in that time, get the **** out of Britain..simples
Well to have the promise of a job then to arrive and the job not exist would be pretty unfortunate.. but if that happened to someone in Australia they have only been allowed in to the country due to them meeting certain criteria, therefore making them self sufficient.. As they would not get help from the State. That person would have a visa enabling them to work there it would then be their choice as to whether they stay at their own cost and find another job or come back... the very fact that they have a skill set the country wants makes it quite likely they will find work relatively easily.. If we had similar criteria then there would be no need to hand out benefits to someone coming here with absolutely nothing to offer the country..
I got a visa for 2 years without having to prove anything. Piece of piss. but I seriously doubt if I lost my job (which I did numerous times) that I would be entitled to benefits
I love the irony of their policy considering everywhere you go in the world you meet ****ing Australians!
