"Of course everyone knows the league is our priority - we all understand that - but any teams that are left in this great competition are proud to be in it, and we're no different.”

“When the goal came it wasn't a classic but it was certainly testament to Wade Elliott's desire to score. He was on the floor at the time he swept it into the back of the net, so although it wasn't the best goal you'll ever see it was certainly determined. And, at the end of the day, it won us the game. In a cup tie situation that's all that's important - scoring the goal or goals that get you through. That can be in the form of crackers, ones that are a bit more lucky, own goals or whatever”

    • The Blues

    Today's team
    Boaz Myhill
Jonathan Spector, Curtis Davies - goals 35 mín. and 60 mín., Steven Caldwell, David Murphy
Keith Fahey, Nathan Redmond for Jean Beausejour - 84 mín., Jordon Mutch, Chris Burke - goal 81 mín.
Adam Rooney for Marlon King - 51 mín., Wade Elliott for Nikola Zigic - caution 63 mín.
    - 83 mín.

    Substitutes: Colin Doyle (gk),
Morgaro Gomis, Chris Burke, Wade Elliott, Adam Rooney, Nathan Redmond

“We have performed very well of late and there were too many individual performances that were not quite right this evening. Second half was a bit more even but first half they had the better of it so eventually you get caught out if the performance levels are not high enough.”

“The level the lads set themselves in training is excellent and this week they were particularly sharp so we came into it really confident and it is a scratch-your-head moment when you look at the players and think what did change in the performance this evening? We have been on a nice run in general, particularly at home, so we are not too despondent overall but we are disappointed with our performance tonight.”

    • The Hornets

    Today's team
    Scott Loach
    Lee Hodson
, Nyron Nosworthy, Adrian Mariappa, Carl Dickinson - caution 87 mín.
    Mark Yeates,
Ross JenkinsRoss Jenkins for Jonathan Hogg - 84 mín, John Eustace (c), Troy Deeney
Chris Iwelumo for Prince Buaben - 71 mín.
    Marvin Sordell

Substitutes: Jonathan Bond (GK), Lloyd Doyley,
Ross Jenkins, Chris Iwelumo, Craig Forsyth

    Who will win?

Five matches for Birmingham City in 2012 and no defeats. Three wins and two draws, one of each against local rivals and Premiership club Wolverhampton Wanderers. A six goal win at Millwall was the high point in goalscoring. Watford have not won a league game this year but do have a good cup win in their book.

Akureyri's Prediction: 0:2 Something says for all their success recently Birmingham will run out of energy and Watford will take advantage.

A fantastic thread as always AK. Nice additions with the previous squads. I hope and pray that Hogg will be fit as we missed his pace and get stuck in attitude. I think it will be close, but it should be entertaining. (not so) Unfortunately i will be out at the time, so will have to catch up in the evening.

I think this will be a tough one. We didn't play at all well last time out and Birmingham looked very organised against Wolves on TV. We need our defence to recover its former tightness, Hogg to be fit, Yeates/Hodson/Dickenson/Forsyth both to support each other in defence and cross accurately when the opportuities arise, and Sordell and Deeney to be clinical if and when chances do come. Sounds simple really...

    What Theo said :)

And i'm going for an away win, of course..with a truly predictable prediction of 1-3.

I'll be there, so i'll be thrilled if we score 3!

I think we'll get caught out to be honest. Birmingham are in good form and against these big teams with experienced players...I feel like we need to be at our best and have confidence.

The Reading game really was a low...I'm gonna go for a 2-1 loss :(

As much as I would like to say a 3-1 win for the Golden Boys, my heart says they will turn us over 2-0:( Sorry everyone:(

    Nice thread.
I would take a point right now as a good result, they are a strong team right now and very confident.

I really cannot see too much going for us in this one, especially with Hogg being very doubtful. When he was first injured it was described as a minor knock, but it seems to have been a bit more than that.

Bassini has promised us a bright future, and I'm convinced that it'll start here.

3-0 Watford, with the pitchfork left firmly in the shed.

Tough game for us but we also put 6 past Millwall at the Den, even though it was last season. Would be very happy with a point but can see us losing this one by the odd goal. Marlon King and Jordan Mutch playing does not bode well.

Going to be a very tough game, I will be attending as it's one of the few games I can actually go to whilst at Uni! :) Hopefully we can beat birmingham's silly home streak!
