On the plus side that would get pretty much every single senator to declare their opposition to the bill within five minutes of each other...

Slight problem being that, while they are complete and utter ****ers, a lot of them have no clue when it comes to the internet/computers, as they made evident in the SOPA hearings. They probably don't know such a thing exists. Although, pornhub and similar sites would be killed (on US soil at least) by SOPA/PIPA; copyrighted content and US hosting.

"The individuals in the criminal enterprise each faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison on racketeering charges, five years for conspiracy to commit copyright infringement, 20 years on money laundering charges and five years on related charges."

It's a bloody video sharing website!

Trust Fox fecking News to give a well balanced view.

I remember watching their coverage of the London riots for a laugh, they made it out like we literally couldn't afford to feed ourselves...

The worrying thing is, there is an extreme lack of media coverage over SOPA/PIPA and even when there is, most major news outlets paint the bill as "new measures on internet piracy" and deeming sites like Megaupload as "Piracy hubs".

    We're living in dystopia!

This. A music website I use (AbsolutePunk) has a feature every Friday where they showcase the best music available for free on the internet. MegaUpload played such a part in that, and it gets taken down on the whim of, what, a couple of hundred people at most.

It was pretty useful for piracy too. Am I allowed to say that now or will the US gov come for me?

Although many members of Congress have just this week changed their stance on the controversial Stop Online Piracy Act, or SOPA, the raid on Megaupload Thursday proved that the feds don’t need SOPA or its sister legislation, PIPA, in order to pose a blow to the Web.

Does this mean they may stop it?

From what I've got from various sites on the web repoting on it the issue is whether the material you're copyrighting is of us origin... I'm not sure but I know you aren't meant to be able to avoid the legislation by moving your servers overseas as most iffy sites do now.

As far as megaupload goes i imagine it'll come back like napster and tvlinks and be a pay for, more harshley regulated site, tho apprently they're going to fight the cas anyway.

And woop woop for anonymous, if this bill does get passed they mAy be the only people left able to fight for the internet

I think I read they were likely to go back on the plans before the black outs took place? Not sure.
