Was involved in all 3 of their other goals, too. Won the penalty for one, accidentally set up another with a miss-hit shot and did most of the work for the other, apparently. I heard from a Millwall fan that he was acting a bit Billy Big-Bollocks when he first joined. I hope that's either untrue or he's calmed himself down a bit.
Confidence isn't necessarily a bad thing, if he can keep delivering. On the other hand, I hope we have not got another Bentley on our hands.
I would have said that the standard of opposition was similar to that faced in the EL, I wonder if occasion got to him, because he never imposed himself in any of them. Others, namely Carroll and Townsend relished their opportunities, I never got that off Kane tbh. Thats not to take anything away from his achievement in this game deserving a well done.
Think it would be funny / ironic if they: 1) have a fight 2) cause injury to one another 3) decide not to play against each other out of respect ? Ok I'm being silly 13 hours 20 minutes before an exam! Don't mind me....
You carry on, Lotak. Good luck with the exam, by the way. My exam days are well behind me, but I still look back on them with fondness. Well... when I say "fondness" I mean horror. Ah! The halcyon days of ones bygone youth...* * And when I say "bygone" I mean misspent.
Well done to the lad. I reckon he has the makings to be a Premier League striker, not a 20 goal a season man but I can definitely see him making it.
I think that Kane's penalty miss got into his head for the Europa League games. He'd basically fluffed his big chance and it took him some time to recover, what with the irregular games and not always featuring or starting them. I don't think that he's an out-and-out goalscorer either, despite his record in academy games. Might be more of a Sheringham or Keane, I think. Not sure which yet, to be honest.
There's an incredible amount of pressure on strikers. Really, they get zero to two chances a game and the world on their backs if they go a couple of games without scoring. Not that this will keep me from being brutally critical of any Spurs strikers other than Ade who go a couple of games without scoring.
Everyone is merely OTT in criticising Ade when he doesn't score, even if he is instrumental in the goal...
What people fail to understand (especially those who have never played football at any kind of level), is just how little time a striker has to get his shot away at this top level. The best strikers make space for themselves, but holding onto the ball carries its own risks and gives the opposition more time to organise themselves and either get in a block or a tackle. Strikers who can strike for goal with their first or second touch and without thinking, and score more times than not are extremely rare, and are worth their weight in gold. And whilst Defoe may not be the striker for us he was when he first returned to the club, there's no doubting that he's still one of the best natural strikers out there.
Highlights: Mishits the shot for the first, scores the second, creates the third with his through ball, wins the penalty for the fourth and scores the fifth. Not bad!
Liam Trotter (Millwall's number 6) looks a decent player, too - set up the second, squared for the third, and seemed to be involved in four of their five goals. A quick Google search shows Arsenal, Everton and Fulham agree.
