Judging by these comments from Pardew it looks like it. Sorry about the stars in the report, I copied and pasted from nufcblog.

Ben Arfa – he’s trying to improve work-rate

That has to be a general statement*because**the lad*worked his socks off for Newcastle*against*QPR, and had a very good game last Sunday in*Newcastle’s*fine 1-0 victory.

The big surprise last Sunday was after scoring *one of*the*best goals ever seen at St. James Park in its 120 year*history*as the home of Newcastle*United (in the*game*against Blackburn) *- that still wasn’t enough to get him *a starting*position*last Sunday against QPR.

And on Sunday Ben Arfa made a big difference to the side after he came on in the first half, *and helped the lads get all 3 points against a rejuvenated QPR under new manager Mark*Hughes.

Alan*Pardew*has again talked about Ben Arfa to the*local*press today:

“The challenge is still for Hatem to get in this team.” “His energy and his workrate needs to improve – I make no bones about that.”

“The goal against Blackburn will do him no harm at all.” “As good a player as he is, he still needs confidence and goals.”

“He scored at Bolton, and he scored against Blackburn here in another cameo.” “He’s been injured for a year – people forget that.”

“We’ve got to make sure we get that talent on the pitch more than we’re getting it at the minute.” *“He’s given us another option, and it’s something we’ll be looking at.” * **

“There are players who have become legends in this country –*Ronaldo, for example – who have taken their time to understand what this division’s about.”

We still think*Ben*Arfa has a very good chance of*becoming*a great player for*Newcastle, and the fact that he seems to be listening *to what his manger is saying is a very good sign.

And give the lad credit, he needs some time to*get*used to the pace and physical nature of the Premier League,* and he’s also coming back from that terrible double fracture of his left leg.

Quite*honestly we think Ben Arfa is doing just fine, *but he will again likely start on the bench at Craven Cottage with Pardew likely to start the same side as against QPR.

That’s assuming Yohan Cabaye is fit, but that looks to be the case.

There’s a chance he could start as*second*striker to*Leon*Best on Saturday, but we think Pardew will stick with Shola Ameobi, who is*due*a goal*for*Newcastle.

I don't understand this bullshit about work rate, he's never lacked work rate. He's a greedy little **** on the ball at times, but that's the sort of player he is. He works his nut sack off.

How can you be dropped if you have never been chosen?

I think it's all bullshit to be honest. Especially if someone like Obertan can get in the side over Ben Arfa. Absolute joke.

Pardew, it isn't all about work rate man you helmet. Just play the right player.

We're going to end up losing him if he doesn't start more games. He's too good to be left out on the bench for ****ing Ober and Raylor.

Maybe if he hasn't had a run in the team by the end of the season, but I'm not too worried about this outcome yet. He wants to repay the fans for the support, he's matured a lot whilst being here and the fact he shed a tear when he scored against Bolton suggest he's not looking for a move at the moment.

Be disappointed if he doesn't start on Saturday. He offers us skill and he's a great dribbler, yes he might lose possession at times, but so does Obertan, who let's not forget, has no end product. Then you have Raylor who lacks pace, skill and the ability to take on a man, the only thing he offers is his crossing.

Ben Arfa has the ability to take on players, he has pace, and he can use the ball well in the final third. Pardew needs to start him, otherwise i fear we will lose one of our most technically gifted players.

I think we will go with 4-5-1 with Benny in behind Best. Shola wont/cant start after his last performance. Plus 4-5-1 worked a treat v QPR.

Imagine Ben Arfa vs Frei! Both talented players with bags of skill.

    Sort of this ..

Personally I think he's being handled perfectly well, regardless of the current situation up front due to the ACN, the team is performing really well with HBA coming off the bench, it could be argued that, against tougher teams, he may still not quite be 100% (regardless of what he says). Pards obviously has a slight issue with his performances during training compared with the rest of the lads who've got us this far ..

I just have a niggling feeling that HBA, sublime as he is, could prove to be one of those players that, when played regularly, goes missing occasionally when he doesn't fancy it (Berbatov-esque).. hope I'm proved wrong though <ok>
