http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16630330.stm Liverpool are close to agreeing a deal for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Carlos Teixeira. Talks are on-going between the two parties, with the latest bid understood to be £850,000 for a player who is yet to start a game for his current club. The 19-year-old is out of contract in the summer and Sporting Lisbon are suffering financial problems. When asked about a potential deal, Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish said: "There might be something about that." Teixeira impressed while playing for Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon against Liverpool in a NextGen series game during August 2010. He has been interesting the Anfield club since scoring an impressive goal against them and has often been compared to former Chelsea midfielder Deco. I watched this boy a few times in the NextGen series and he is absolute class! He looked head and shoulders above everyone else and for 850,000 it's a steal!
Without trying to rush things, could he play now or would he need some reserve time, maybe a few spots on the bench, etc? Not saying throw him straight into the first team but could he feature before the end of the season, he is 19.
I think Kenny mentions somewhere that he's only a kid and is very unlikely to be starting matches anytime soon, therefore will feature in the reserves. Also, I don't think he's played for the Sporting Lisbon first team so his experience of real domestic football is quite limited.
True, I am sure he would go to the ressies first but..... just a kid? Shelvey gets games and is he not of the same age? Just saying, if you are good enough, you are old enough I think is the old moniker.
From what I heard, we've pretty much signed him already for 1million. Another one for the future though, not someone to come in and improve the first team.
I don't think he'll come straight in due to his experience, maybe we could loan him out to a championship team? It did wonders for Shelvey. Anyway the kid reminds me a lot of Mata, always a good sign
does look like a fantastic buy......I think maybe our disillusion with our record this year maybe a bit early......NESV clearly have a policy of building for the future.......and we should have all the blocks in place to be very very effective......In about 5 years!!!
Shelvey had been playing first team football at Charlton and then at Blackpool though. This guy hasn't made a 1st team appearence yet. I'd hope in 1 or 2 years then he'd be pushing for a first team place though
Strange though to be that highly rated and not get a sniff of the first team though.... not dicounting him already but at 19 he should have had a look or two.
the guy has never played first team football.......he has to learn his trade.......You could get a child prodigy coming out of school with 10 a levels with 100% in all his exams......You still are not going to make him a doctor until he has learnt the game......This guy has oodles of potential, but he has to be premiershiperised......I just hope he doesnt go the same route as some of our other 'amazingly' talented youngsters such as Pacheco.........Poor Dani, i even bought a Liverpool shirt with your name on the back......
Here's an interesting take on the future of this kid at Liverpool: It's a negative take on things I'm afraid but it's kind of hard to argue with the conclusions (plus it contains a vid of the next gen game at Anfield ). http://www.liverpool-kop.com/2012/01/lfc-sign-teixeira-whats-point-history.html
We were linked with him for a while before he went to City. Who's this "Old Moniker" bird? Is she any good at finding the net?
I guess, but it might be that the Sporting manager doesn't like using younger players, or they aren't in a position in the league to play them etc. Guess we should wait and see but he was apparently the stand out player when their youth team played ours, so although only 1 game, he's clearly equal or better than some of our younger players.
i think if he is nearly out of contract the law is we can speak pre contract. i think we are trying to get him in now for a reason. ie... we are ready to try him in the first squad at least, note guys that i would say we've done the deal with his agent as the contract situation allows this and the rest is just us negotiating. he was good for sure.
