is this a case of keeping up with the Jones? The mags are having a somewhat unexpectedly good season, now they have signed Cisse. We all pay attention to what our neighbours do as they do us but do we really expect a signing now. Personally, even though I've got 10 of my own pounds riding on who finishes higher, at the moment I'm just pleased we've got in a very good manager and have climbed the league table. I don't expect a signing this January and if we do make any I would think it would be on loan squad players to shore up the squad in case of injury. 3 home games coming up and a further push up the table is a possablitiy. The SOL is looking and sounding more like a fortress again and whilst Swansea and Norwich will not be easy it's a long journey for both clubs and Swansea's away form is poor (not sure about Norwich's? It doesn't upset me that Newcastle have made a signing and we havn't.
I really don't think it will matter one jot to MON who Newcastle sign. He was very forthright in his post match comments after the Chelsea game so with that in mind I think he knows exactly what we need just like we do. Bendy is plainly not the answer, he has proved it now I think. Marty will do his best to get what we need but we have to be realistic. Maybe he sees enough to get us through the season & then kick on & rebuild. There may well be some bargains to be had at the ACON.
Im pleased they have signed another striker, dressing room unrest now with best, the ameobis and lovenkrands on the bench or not even in squads. Hope their negativity rubs off on others
If SB was still in charge i would be worried now but as its MoN i could not give a **** if we dont sign anyone. The right man is in charge. Its always nice to listen to speculation & gossip i love it we have alot of good posts about certain players we maybe interested in. Not saying i dont want any new players in i just fully trust the man in charge. KTF
Exactly. If we don't sign anyone I will be optimistic our current force develops and starts scoring, and we will make the best signing in the summer. Either way I am happy and trust MON to do the right thing.
We are not going down now so its all about next season and preparing for that imo. Mon will have a good 6 months to get his targets in place. That's what Iam waiting for. Frazier will be a breath of fresh air when he gets his chance in the coming weeks. If he rattled in 10 goals between now and May, would this stop the need for a big money signing? I'd like to see us target Agbonlahor personally now. Agbonlahor, Campbell, Wickham and Noble for next year. Quality.
We have players that are playing for the team though. Sammy is injured for the season, Lovenkrands rarely features anyway and will most likely leave in the summer and Shola knows he's not a first XI player, and has done so for several seasons now. Why would they all become so negative all of a sudden? Would you rather have competition for places in the squad or just two strikers that played week in week out?
Personally, I'd like an established striker to come in. Wickham really impressed me before his injury, but Ji is still settling and Bendtner's not consistent enough (not even our player anyway). Campbell coming back is a definite plus and hopefully he'll be raring to go, but another quality front man is high up on my wish list. I don't know if Cisse will be any good for the mags as I only know him from YouTube (looks handy, but not wholly convinced), but they do seem to get more right than wrong when it comes to continental players.
Here's what the manager thinks. http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-n...ill-confident-sunderlands-goalscoring-ability
I've no doubt that Cisse is a decent player although I don't know jack about him or his game but, did we actually put a bid in for him or was it just the rumour mill going into overtime as we were interested in August?
All the Newcastle press say we did and are trying to rub our faces in it, the Sunderland (echo) press say no. The Chronical was trying to say we are devastated and Cisse snubbed us (yawn, really!)
But all 4 would suit a Mon tactical formation of a targetman and pacey support. We are already a team with goals from all over the park and he has changed our reliance on a single goalscorer. It's about team now not individual.
Agreed Cest' we've only scored 3 less than the mags and we are not struggling to score goals, indeed the only one struggling to score goals is Bendtner at the moment. With the rate everyone else is chipping in a 10-15 goals a season man should be enough. It's a myth that every club needs a 20 goals a season man as very few clubs do!
We are scoring goals and the defence is keeping them out: a few facts - 9th highest goals scored in prem 5th tightest defence in prem not lost a game by more than one goal sound basis for success methinks! ..... with or without a new striker. I think MON will only buy if someone special is available, otherwise lets wait for the summer. I still think we can finish above the mags in 8th position as we are.
I'm pretty sure Bruce was interested in getting this guy a few months back and while O'Neill hasn't revealed any of his potential targets, it would be mighty strange to me if O'Neill had the same players in mind as Bruce. I can understand some of the knobbish element amongst Mags gloating... some of our lot would do the same if the situations were reversed- there are still a bunch of folks who think "na na, na-na, na" equates to wit. The January window is traditionally a time for panic buys and overspending so maybe O'Neill will be content to see how our returning players work out and look to add strength in the summer... I honestly do trust the guy and I also trust Short. Despite some woeful 'tactics' and a seeming lack of belief among the players early in the season our stats are still pretty healthy so I'm not going to start gnashing of teeth if we see the window out with the team intact.
Sammy Ameobi is injured, Shola knows he is not going start regularly and Lovenkrands wants to leave. As for Best he has said before he will fight for his place.
