Micky Hazard is a cab driver. He was still playing top flight football for Spurs as late as 1995. Unbelievable when you think about it.
Can't believe he was playing till then thought he packed in long before, can't have headed that many footballs if he passed the Knowledge!
I think it's still standard in London as the satnavs will probably send you all over the shop down there
Doesn't it also cover one way systems? Justifying keeping the fees they get from cabbies sitting it might explain why councils keep changing them every two minutes.
Not a clue, is the knowledge a one-off test, or do they have to take it every year or so for when roads change? My sat nav covers 1 way systems, and I can get free updates whenever the roads change. The Councils get a lot of money from the licence fees charged to cabbies anyway.
Not sure, I think they have to take it every so often, but even if it's just new cabbies it's a bit of money every year for keeping it in place. The satnav only covers the changes as they're updated to them, unless you get one every few days you're definitely going to be working from out of date maps, they don't all get together and go "it's January, time to change the one way systems for the year".
Last time I was in London I stayed in Chelsea. My mates and I got in a taxi and asked the driver to take us to the Chelsea Ram( battle, cruiser-boozer) forthwith . The clueless tit of a cabbie didn't have a clue where it was despite the fact he worked the Chelsea area. He got well narked off with my mate repeatedly shouting in a mock and well over the top cockney accent, "Where's your facking knowledge now you facking mug?" I think if it wasn't for the fact he had four pissed up ex squaddies in his cab he'd have stopped and slung us out. It wasn't Mickey Hazard, he'd have known would Mickey.
I appreciate that Ricardo, but I tend to update mine every month anyway. I don't mean buying the up-to-date maps, but whenever i connect it to my laptop it does provide small updates, like speed cameras moving, roadworks and also (on occasion) changes to 1 way streets etc. But in any event, I think that the knowledge should continue. Satnav is only a tool to assist you and should not be relied on completely - I often disagree with the proposed route
Did you get there then? I noticed recently that they use satellite tracking to monitor cabbies movements, bet theres not much joy to be had being a non-independent cabbie anymore
No, did we balls. Ended up in some gaff called Bar Do off the Kings Road somewhere. About £10 for a bottle of Korean lager and full of hooray Henrys. We only got in my my mates cousin worked there, he claimed he was the DJ but I think he was a bar man. Robbing cockney ****s.
