It seems that G&H were dreaming of pie in the sky....

    http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/live...original-new-anfield-designs-100252-30139849/

I really don't know what this will do to the planning permission or what it would mean for timing of building and such but it is at least some sort of commentary on a long over due situation.

The source in the article is very unclear but if they are reporting that this has been on the cards for well over a year.

"It is understood that scrapping the plans of the former American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett in favour of the original option has been the focus of Fenway Sports Group, the current owners, for well over a year."

if you look here: http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/stadium/new-stadium there is no mention of this move at all so in this case i think we must be asking are we being kept in the dark or being sold a pup.

I for one would like an offical club update as to what their plans are and if that has to be a "we don't know when we will start" then fair enough. If nobod wants the naming rights as mentioned in this article at a price that will enable work then ok but let us know what you can.

I agree with everything said above....nothing is clear. At the same time the whole construction industry and financial market are dodgy at the moment so i imagine, they do not even know what they are doing at the moment. i dont see that as other people are building so why are we not.....

do you know if the old plans had a Kop?

My impression of the old plans was that is was a lot more even and bowl shaped than the g&h one. I rememebr each stand was on its own as well so there was room to fill in with seats later.

the best i can do is refer to you this old article

    http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/pictures-of-lfc-s-proposed-new-stadium

this is form 2002 and has pics of what it would look like.... not unique but then not pie i nthe sky

I's nice to think that whole thing hasn't been shelved and that Fenway are actively looking to make posivitve moves.

But Jesus H ****ing Christ - how much money has already been totally WASTED on different plans & designs?

To be fair to G&H, I much preferred their design as it had a bigger extended KOP and kinda looked futuristic.

I agree. The other design looks like so many other soulless bowls up & down the country.

hopefully we have a case of holding cards close to chests and such here.... but why not tell us they were dropping those plans.. nobody would give a good god-damn that another g&H piece of rubbish was trashed.

i'd hope the club can give an update seeing it was the echo that sprung it and can't be ignored.

i don't mind waiting to hear concrete plans but if it is a choice between updated moores plans or staying at anfield... especially as they keep updating the timeline o nthe offical webiste and this didn't go up. hopefully an oversight

Pie in the sky...I've been hearing about plans for new stadiums etc since about 1984 (plans to build a san siro style stadium at Aintree) and here we are nearly 30 years later. The stupid thing is had we invested a bit more heavily in stadium development when we were developing the Anny Road and Kemlyn stands we would have easily paid for that by now. An extra 10 000 seats at average spend of say £50 (£40 ticket, programme, beer plus potential extra corporates etc) would be £500 000 per home game, 19 league games a season and minimum 1 cup home game, so lets call it just 20 home games a season = £10mill a year multiplied by 20 years = do i need to do any more maths for you lazy ****ers??? <laugh>

Instead we've had hot air blah blah promise this promise that blah blah blah etc etc etc...etc <ok> Spending a fortune on consultants and architects whilst getting absolutely nowhere.

Ditch the idea of a new stadium and put the money into where our heart and soul is....just as we should have done twenty years ago.

LIVERPOOL FC have reverted to their original nine-year-old stadium plans for new Anfield - and ditched ones drawn up by the previous owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

LFC are focusing on the designs created by Manchester-based firm AFL - the company which designed the club's training facility at Melwood - plans first made when Liverpool FC were under the stewardship of ex chairman David Moores.

It is understood that scrapping the plans of the former American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett in favour of the original option has been the focus of Fenway Sports Group, the current owners, for well over a year.

Planning permission for the first set of plans was granted by Liverpool City Council in 2004 and so with the AFL plans now revived the club do not need to seek the green light a second time.
