Bollocks does net spend count, players still cost what they did, and you still spent a hell of a lot on your squad.

Of course net spend counts. We're not city or chelsea, we don't magic money out of our arse and splash it on whatever moves. We had to sell numerous players to afford what we bought resulting in a 40million net spend. Profits against expenditures is what finance is all about, you don't just ignore half the damn balance sheet (unless you're the above mentioned teams).

Just because your idiot owner would rather buy a new car than plough player sales back into the club doesn't mean you need to try use player value as a means to say how much more super awesome your team is compared to ours (especially when both parts of that statement are questionable).

True. I Would argue net spend is the most important one. We still destroy you on that as we are on about -£25 million on net spend (woooo profit) so regardless, we are better value to the tune of £60 million to you :p

If you bite on a thread like this then you have issues, just a bit of a laugh imo.

Krul Reina (Hard decision because Reina has been no where near his usual form this season, but he can boss the defence.)
Santon Johnson (Johnson has improved, I haven't seen enough of Santon to judge whether he is better going forward.)
Saylor Agger (Saylor has been fantastic for you guys, but Agger has been an integral part of our defence.)
Colo Skrtel (Colo would get into my Prem 11, he has skills as well as defensive qualities.)
Raylor Enrique (Both had great seasons so far, but Enrique is one of the best in the league.)
Tiote Lucas (If you had both in the same team they would be un-passable. Lucas for me has that extra quality off and on the ball.)
    Obertan Gerrard (World class.)
Cabaye Adam/Henderson (Miles better than Adam, henderson is yet to grow.)
    Guitierrez Downing (Downing is ****e.)
HBA Suarez (May be a ****, but a good one.)
Ba Carroll (Goals tell you everything.)

i would say for sure that newcastle, (based on what they have spent) are hitting well above their weight. And have made many astute signings in the last few years. That is absolutely undeniable.

However, I think Liverpool are better in most positions on the pitch with the exception of Ba.

i think Liverpool have created more this season than anyone with the exception of Man City......We just lack someone who is capable of putting the ball in the back of the net. If liverpool had been able to put away their chances and not drawn all the silly games they have this season, (which they have utterly dominated) Liverpool would be top 3 for sure.

As it is, we have drawn those games and we are below newcastle in the table. So by that logic the thread is asking a fair question. However: there is no better keeper in the league then reina. There is no better ball playing cb in the league than daniel Agger, There is no better midfielder in the league than gerrard..... Just based on that id say that liverpool havea better first team than newcastle....

i like Newcastle though, so i dislike this thread as it causes tension between good fans...good skills for doing united

I never argued otherwise ^^ I just object to us being lauded as big money spenders when we're clearly not.

    -----------Krul

    Santon--Agger--Colo--Jose

    Maxi--Tiote--Gerrard--HBA

    ----Suarez--BA

    Allow me to justify myself

Krul was easy as I am not the only one who rates him as the top. Both he and Vorm have been the best this season while Reina has made several mistakes.

I was undecided on right back as I rate Kelly very highly but having seen the way Santon plays it just had to be.

The rest of the defence speaks for itself. I miss Jose :(.

In midfield on the right it was either Bellars or Maxi for me. A fan of Maxi and has produced for you in big matches so put him in.

My opinion is Tiote is better. Man U, Chelsea and City want him. Lucas has finally found his feet and is a top class player but I think Tiote edges it.

    Gerrard needs no explantion

HBA makes it on the left as you have no convincing options down the left (that I can think of)

Suarez and Ba again needs no explanation.

My concluding point though is barring the left hand side, all choices were incredibly close and this whole exercise is a matter of opinion :)

    Feel free to pick apart!

<ok> I was on your side although just highlighting that the gulf in spend is still there. Mind you, you have spent less than Stoke and they still play crap football. At least you play the game on the green stuff!

It's pretty clear that we're going to say that we have and they're going to say they have. That's that really.

I don't think there's much between either side with the exception of Gerrard, who is a world class player and a real game changer.

    -----------------Krul--------------------
    Santon --- Agger --- Coloccini --- Enrique
    -----------------Tiote------------------
    ---Ben Arfa --- Gerrard --- Cabaye ------
    -------------Ba --- Suarez--------------

I think that's quite a fair XI, and easily a top 4 team.

The 'Tiote vs Lucas' debate will continue of course, but I'd prefer Tiote, and I do think the rest pick themselves. I can't think of any Liverpool player who would keep Coloccini, Ben Arfa, Cabaye or Ba out of the side.

I'd even be tempted to have the Steven Taylor and Coloccini partnership. I know Liverpool have a great defensive record, but when we had this defensive unit:

    -------------------Krul------------------
    Simpson --- Saylor --- Coloccini --- Raylor

It was consistently the best in the league alongside Man City until S Taylor got injured and the ****ty Perch had to fill in. However, Agger does seem like a quality player, so perhaps him and Coloccini could do even better.

IF newcastle are just punching above there weight then our first 11 on current form is out performing liverpools. Fact. Higher in the table 2 spent less. So better starting 11 on current form yes? not price tag of course

40 million is alot of money to overhaul a team, money buys you players like michael owen. Or andy carroll. Happy to play crap and take the dosh

our entire first 11 cost us 40 million the amount liverpool have spent this year. Thanks for 35 million btw

So realistically statically newcastle has to be a better starting 11 on current form. Without gerrad is a dead cert :)

Don't thank us - thank Chelsea. Without that £50 mill we'd never have considered buying AC <ok>

We will see who come's higher in the table when the league is over. And half your team will prob want to leave in the summer anyway to play for a club that has won a trophy in the past 50 year's.

Without any respect - wouldn't touch yours with a bargepole!

NUFC are a mid-table side over-performing and you won't be higher than 10th by the end of the season. Grow up!!

It's a shame idiots like this guy have to ruin it. I see absolutely no reason for an insulting post like this.
