As answered, he said he'll sort it out in the summer.

I'm not saying that Arsenal aren't going to finish in the top 4, but if that did happen, do you think that van Persie would stay, Piskie?
Bearing in mind the potential interest in him, his age and the chance that you'd be looking for a new manager.

You know we had a conversation in the summer where I was arguing that it was likely that Nasri would leave and you wouldn't hear any of it. In fact you used the same rationale that you are using at the moment. I'm not saying that he will definitely leave but it looks likely to me at any rate.

I find it laughable that Walcott thinks he would be good enough to leave us if we drop out of the top 4.

  7. Yeah sure. Stick your head in the sand as much as you'd like but don't expect us all to follow your lead.

Sorting it out in the summer could also mean wait and see or that's when I go. What's to disrupt the season in getting in sorted now if he wanted to? Answer - nothing. If you think it will distract from his season then you sell him and us short.

You obviously would like to believe what all of us wish which is RvP staying. However wanting to believe and wishing do not always equate reality. The reality is that in his shoes, do you really honestly think he would wait around if he sees no opportunity of winning trophies?

Put it another way - do you really sincerely believe we are a club that can win any trophy??? We couldn't even take the Mickey Mouse cup from a relegation side last year.

Waiting till Summer puts RVP in the strongest position to negotiate an extension or exit.
I get the impression he hasn't made up his mind one way or another just yet.
There's a matter of half a Season of football to play before this becomes our primary concern.

I can see no reason for RVP to sign an extension with us, no reason whatsoever. We have a poor squad and little chance of qualifying for the CL next season and little chance of winning the league next season with a 2 bob squad.

Arsenal FC ...... selling club, happy to be "also rans" as long as the fans keep paying to watch.

Nasri may be a prick but, what if he was sold a scenario by Wenger et al which simply didn't materialise ?! What if he was told to sign for Arsenal, we will compete, we will have a strong squad, we have Cesc etc etc. Nasri way back in Jan last year said he wanted to see a commitment to the squad before he signs, so what did we do ? We sold Cesc and bought Gervinho, OXO cube and Jenkinson from bloody Charlton !!! WTF. WE deserve what we got with Nasri leaving us. He was well within his rights to leave Arsenal for footballing reasons alone !

Woo hooo .. my 1000th post. The Milky Bars are on me !

  11. Wow you are really in The Big Time now Mr Head <applause>

Well I hope the management team do more than make half-hearted gestures. Time for them to step up or step away.

With the lack of promise shown by those who manage the club and a proportion of those who play on the field, should RvP leave, I think he will be doing so with a clear conscience.

RVP is a smart cookie- if he WAS convinced about his future he would sign up. If Arsenal continue to disappoint he's off.
If we miss CL next season he's a target for big clubs and his wages soar.
    Why would he sign now?

As mentioned by numerous posters, why would RVP want to stay? Ok lets look at the facts:

    - he is playing the best football of his career
    - he is rated as one of the best strikers in the world
    - he has only another 3-4 years left of top flight football
    - he is playing for a team with no chance of winning the league or champions league in the forseeable future
    - he is playing for a team that has won no trophy in 7 years
    - he is playing for the worst Arsenal team since Wenger started his tenure
    - he has not signed a new contract
    - his continual high performance will attract top sides.
    - he has shown admiration for Barcelona on many occasions
    - big question is will Barcelona come in?

You'd better hope that they don't.
The Fabregas transfer turned into an extended, painful extraction and you didn't get anything like market value for him, either.
Might be better just to accept a fairly poor bid from them early on, just so that you can sort out a worthwhile replacement in good time.

Totally agree. I hated the way we dragged the whole thing and ended up getting less than market value. Add to that, we didn't get any top quality player as a replacement and it affected our preparation for the premiership.

If RVP doesn't sign a new contract close to the end of the season, then just permit him to go. I do not want a repeat of last years fiasco!

Although Van Persie is clearly world class and bang on form, potentially making him a very hot property right now, when you think about his appalling injury record, and the big fee and wages he would require, would that not put off allot of potential purchasers?

I guess maybe City could take the risk.

You could argue that Spurs should do the same with Modric, who has stated his intention to leave in the past.

    And you'd be wrong.
Spurs held out against vast pressure to sell.
    Arsenal didn't.

Fabregas destroyed any chance of you getting the going rate for a player of his calibre by stabbing you in the back.
Strange that he's forgiven for it so easily.

That's not quite how he sold it though, SNIAW.
You could apply the same logic to Nasri, though he joined a less prestigious club.
One is hated and the other's still thought of fondly, though you got market value for the unpopular one.

Clubs do give players an opportunity though SNIAW, so some degree of loyalty is often warranted.
