No, I think we will bring in another striker but I don't know who, and I don't think it will be Hooper
Hoopers demanding a new and improved contract which will put him among the highest earners at Park Head - to which they're currently objecting to. Although Celtic are a much bigger club I'm sure we can offer much higher wages than them so it'll be interesting to see how that develops. I wouldn't necessarily call it a 'quiet' day - I heard we're going back in with a final take it or leave it offer in the next day or two. Don't think the door is quite closed on this one yet, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
The Lambert suspension has made a lot of us seem quite desperate to get a replacement striker in as soon as possible, you wouldn't think we had won the last two games. The strikers we're being linked with are star players at their respective football clubs and they won't give them up without a fight. The majority of January transfers happen at the end of the window because you can find yourself in a property style chain. Celtic may have a figure they're willing to accept but they want to make sure they have a replacement lined up and that club may well want a replacement and so on. No one wants their squads to be left short for the rest of the season. Patients

Has anyone mentioned Harrison Dunk yet? Saw this this morning http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-n...ton-and-cardiff-chasing-cambridge-midfielder?
I'm a Saints fan in Cambridge - I've seen Dunk play a few times - nothing special at all. Certainly not better than L2 as far as I am concerned

Article seems wishful thinking on the part of the reporter. Can see us doubling Hooper's wages - but trebling seems unlikely (even after promotion). While I rate Hooper as a striker, i don't want to pay over the odds for a striker now. I can see us switching targets if we still want a striker in this window.
Probably about the same - they're on 25k-ish now and I'd imagine they have huge promotion based rises too.
i agree, some clubs in the NPC are paying £25k+ anyway for their players these days as for some of the better players that seems to be a solid average prem wage. as dan says i think most of our players will have a fair wage boost in the contract if we go up so it might be near to those figures. as for bidding £6m why not? if he was the one signing worthwhile for that money right now that could spur us to promotion then considering how much decent strikers can cost it may seem like really good business further down the line. plus wont people be thinking "why have they got the money and not spent it?" well as we know with NA and NC they will only splash out bigger sums on people they REALLY want, and he seems a big target to me. Rickie lambert in L1 was alot for £1m as was Jose Fonte but how wise do those deals seem now? £1m in the NPC for a striker is often pittance so compare it to that, and also think from this point of view - considering how much prem strikers can cost is £6m really that much? considering newcastle just spent £10m on another african random.... (not that he may not be good) lets hope that Nicola paid for Jos and Co's meal last night and that squarehead was doing some decent undercover work.
