If he leaves, I'll be pretty damn annoyed at our management team, especially as Rory is going to be offered a 1 year contract extension to go on top of the deal he already has. http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-wednesday/ben_bids_to_go_out_on_a_high_1_4137640 BEN Marshall is set for a farewell performance against Charlton in what Gary Megson regards as a tougher test for the Owls than their Cup clash with West Ham. There is serious doubt about whether Marshall will be staying, with his loan about to come to an end, his contract talks with Stoke unresolved, and other clubs wanting him. Owls fans will hope that the left-winger, arguably the teamâs best player, can put on a show against the Addicks - but boss Megson feels that it would be hard for him to improve on the form that he has already produced and has made him a favourite of the fans. Megson also feels that attempting to buy the 20-year-old may be the only option if the club are to keep him, and if he goes, he will be a hard act to follow. âIf Ben isnât here, we will have to find somebody who we can afford, who we can loan, who is available in January, can get five goals in 20 games and make about 15 others, is a constant threat to the opposition and a great lad in the dressing room,â said the manager. âIf anybody knows where we can get one of those, give us a ring! We have to do everything we possibly can to get Ben.â Megson said that he understood the left-wing erâs talks with Stoke were at an impasse. âBen will play his last game [of his loan] for us against Charlton. There are other clubs interested in him. We have to get the Charlton game out of the way, then see how everything is,â he said. Rivals have been alerted by Marshallâs success on loan. Megson added: âThese are the problems you get when loan players do well. You become chief scout for a lot of other clubs.â http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/spor...marshall_heads_for_transfer_auction_1_4137732 Winger Ben Marshall, meanwhile, is set to make his final appearance for the Owls tomorrow after Stoke City blocked the possibility of an extension to his loan. Marshall has rejected a new deal with the Premier League club and is now likely to be sold to the highest bidder. Huddersfield Town have expressed an interest and are in a better position financially to secure his signature. Megson said: âThe situation is becoming clearer. Ben has not agreed a contract with Stoke. There seems to be a bit of an impasse so, as I see it, he will play his last game against Charlton. There are other clubs interested in him.â http://www.sheffieldtelegraph.co.uk/sport/madine_eyes_return_1_4135296 Timely, too, in that it helps to balance the turnaround over Ben Marshall who - says manager Gary Megson - is heading into his last game for the club barring a sudden breakthrough in the wingerâs contract stalemate with Stoke. There is truth in reports that promotion rivals Huddersfield have bid £500,000 for Marshall and it would be surprising if there was not other interest in a rising star of the game, whose quality has been honed at Hillsborough. Whether Wednesday will compete in the bidding remains a matter of some doubt, even though Marshall has become arguably the most influential matchwinner at the club. Megson is less than hopeful over the Stoke impasse, saying: âIâve spoken to Tony (Pulis) and Ben has been made an offer. It seems Benâs representative wants a different sum, so at the moment itâs a no-go. âUnfortunately, at this stage, Ben is approaching his last game for the club.â
Would be a shame if he left, I've seen a few SWFC matches and liked the look of him. Apparently a while back he was looking likely to get in our squad, ended up breaking his leg while on loan, been at Wednesday since recovering.
I can not understand this, unless Marshall's demands are ridiculous - if they were, how can a Division 1 / Championship side match them and we can not, or will not. There is no cover for Eterington, who is not getting any younger and has not been very influential for most of the season. Sorry, forgot - we have Rory who TP sees as the new Ryan Giggs? Like all players, we will not know if Marshall can play at the highest level, unless he is given a chance. It does not seem a very sensible decision by Stoke, if they decide to let him go.
By the sounds of it, he's decided not to sign, rather than Stoke letting him go. Don't know if it's 'cause we've made him a crap offer, or if he wants first team that he's not gonna be guaranteed. I'd much prefer us to concentrate on Marshall, and get rid of the likes Soares and Tonge, who aren't going to get a game for us.
From a Midlands journo on Twitter. Bloody **** from Stoke. No less than what I expected though. John Percy @John__Percy Ben Marshall likely to see out #Stoke contract and leave in the summer. No more talks planned. #SCFC
All I can say and repeat as above. UNLESS we played Ben Marshall we will never know! Stupid decision by Pulis and Co.. I can only assume that he's either too short or too old. Just look at Shotton? Whilst he's no where near the finished article he's Stoke through and through, gives it everything every week. Can not fault the lad. In short we've obviously not given Ben a CHANCE! F F sake another player who no doubt will do well wherever he goes.
Marshall turned down our contract offer. It would seem Marshall and Stoke had different ideas on certain clauses or agreements in the contract. Perhaps Marshall wanted reassurances on first team appearances or something of the like which we couldn't guarantee him.
Sgt I don't by that excuse IF that is what's happened. Let's face it, Huth has just signed a long term contract so has Whelan. Neither play every week? So, if that's his reason for not wanting to sign a contract. There are not too many player's who are certs and neither should they expect to play every game. I don't know how much we offered or for how long but, that's not the point I was trying to make.
Marshall scored twice in the Reserves 7-0 win against Walsall Reserves at the Brit today. Apparently got 3 assists as well.
If we let him go i will be so ********************(you get the jist!) If his wage demands are too high then why dont we stop paying Sidibe, let diao go and lower Delaps wage?! No point in developing him and then not using him, would love to see him play at derby(please tone) see what he can do first hand.
Agree get rid of Diao, Sidibe and do not give Rory another year. Invest in the future and youth. TP keeps saying that Ryan Shotton is a 'bonus.' Ryan nearly left. Let Ben have a go and see what he can do please. He will get support from the crowd and great encouragement. However, it does need two to tango! Hoping.
Hoping in vain I fear, Tenterden. If TP had any intention of playing him he would have done so by now. He's a stubborn so and so.
Tony Scholes was on Praise and Grumble tonight saying that contract talks with Marshall have not broken down and are still ongoing. Maybe his performance for the reserves changed things slightly.
hahaha, sick! I would like to have some promising youth in him, Shawcross(sort of) and Shotton. Something I'm jealous of Wolves for
Sgt kinell so WHY don't we tempt him with a bigger offer? And tell Diao he's useless.. edit Surplus to requierments and the same with a few more. Jesus, talk about getting rid of "dead wood" Uncle Tony we have enough dead wood to start a bush fire in siberia.
I've just read on the Sentinel site, that Pulis is unsure if he wants Marshall out on loan, because he'd like to keep him at Stoke so he can "monitor him at close quarters" http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.u...Ben-Marshall/story-14456595-detail/story.html
I'd stick him on the bench at Derby with every intention of bringng him on if the game is going ok. He seems like a good young player and we need cover in that area desperately.
http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/story-14973547-detail/story.html Meanwhile, Coates, pictured below, left, is optimistic Stoke will hold on to highly-rated winger Ben Marshall, who is out of contract at the end of the season. City are hoping to agree a new deal with the 20-year-old, who has impressed during a five-month loan at League One promotion-chasers Sheffield Wednesday. Coates said: "We are in talks with Ben and have no reason to think he won't sign. We want to keep him because he is a good young player and they are very much our future." Marshall, who joined Stoke from Crewe two-and-a-half years ago, is back training with City after returning from Hillsborough. The Owls would like to take him on loan until the end of the season, but Pulis is considering whether to keep him at City to monitor his progress at closer quarters. Marshall scored twice in City's 7-0 victory over Walsall in a reserve game at the Britannia on Tuesday.
http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/story-14986194-detail/story.html? BEN Marshall could be fast-tracked into Stoke's squad for tomorrow's match against West Bromwich Albion. The 20-year-old winger is currently in contract talks with Stoke after returning from a five-month loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday. But an impressive showing for Stoke reserves this week, together with injuries to Rory Delap and Ryan Shotton, could see him handed a first-team shirt for the first time. "If I thought it was right to put him into the group on Saturday, then I would do it," said manager Tony Pulis. He remains confident Marshall can agree a new contract, adding: "We're making sure he's happy with the deal, then deciding whether he's ready to bring into the group, or whether it's beneficial for him to have another three or four months at another club." Wednesday boss Gary Megson, who wants Marshall back at Hillsborough, believes there could be five League One clubs and two from the Championship interested in the youngster. "Whether they're concrete remains to be seen, but that's what I'm told," said the former Stoke boss.
