The Guardian are linking us with West Brom's 30 year old goalscorer: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/jan/17/football-transfer-rumours Hmmm, good player who could fit our system nicely, but the wrong age for my mind. Apparently we are offering £3m (bargain) they are holding out for £5m (which sounds about right to me). Personally, I'm not sure if he's the right signing but he may well be better than signing no one, particularly if one or more of Trotta, Hoessen and Dalla Valle are expected to step up in the next couple of years.
In the summer there would have been no qualms about paying £5 million for him after the season he had last year, unfortunately for him it looks like second season syndrome has kicked in. Not for me.
Injured and Roy has lost faith on him.... But potentially a good replacement for either BZ or AJ if either one goes... QPR are pushing for BZ.
Given a choice, I'd stay with AJ. He's more clinical in front of goal. Odemwingie has pace, but that's about it.
I don't think I agree, DR. I think he's a better finisher than AJ as well as having the kind of pace that AJ used to have. At 30 though, that pace could be about to start disappearing (just as AJs did round about the time we signed him). I think he's an improvement on AJ, but not any kind of long-term solution. I think we should sell AJ and sign someone, but I'm not sure that Odemwingie is the right option. We should keep Zamora too, for this window at least.
If West Brom offered us a straight swap I would take it, but I would hope that we could get a better replacement for AJ than Odemwingie.
I'd be shocked if we did go for him. He's 30! Why would he want to come to Fulham? Unless Roy wants to get rid of him of course. I think we'd be better to let AJ go for free at the end of the season than for a knock down price. He's still good, not as good as he was but he's still good and puts a proper shift in.
If you remember rightly Odemwingie and Hodgson had a falling out earlier in the season over an injury to Odemwingie.
Bandit I am with you on this one, As Roy was so enamoured with AJ when he purchased why not do a straight swop
If were after West Brom players I'd have Shane Long anyday over Odemwingie, would be an ideal replacement for AJ and is a lot younger and chips in with a few goals. Though clearly we missed our opportunity over the summer.
A straight swap would be ideal. If we have to pay extra on top, leave him alone, go for someone younger.
Always though we should have been in for Long, surely we could have offered more than Brom in terms of attractiveness and contract?
Long's done ok but if we'd stumped up the dosh we'd all be thinking here it was a risk. Not sure he'd work with BZ certainly not AJ. Then again Hodgson seemed to think AJ and BZ worked and would rip up EPL defences too. Next
The new, animated Uncle Woy says, "Not on your Nelly, our Peter's not going anywhere. The only approach has been from a cheeky set of blighters who wanted him on loan - they were told to get on their bike." Reported by the Daily Mail
Cheeky loan bid - sounds more like a certain Mr Redknapp wanting to cover for his strikers for the title run-in.
I notice that uncle Woy has not made any sort of a bid for his shinning light of a couple of years back.
