Sky does not have a licence to broadcast to France, yet of course many people have brought boxes with them and get hold of cards allowing them to watch it free. Canal+ operates a similar system to Sky, hogging most of the better football matches on a subscription only basis. The money from that only finds it's way into the top league here, so the equivalent division to the Championship has little TV revenue to subsidise it. The result is that matches in that league are a very poor standard, not much better than conference football.

This is what the choice is as far as I can see. Accept some money from Sky or have teams that can only pay players at a level the club can afford. To regain the soul of football will be a long and painful road whatever happens.

Notting Hill is a good film like that. It is better than Bridget Jones.

I like The Holiday as well.

    Best local films:
Reykjavík 101 - film of an idle man doing what an idle man does, with a lesbian mother her pregnant girlfriend(!) and the man's pregnant sister and pregnant girlfriend. Not a lot of sex but the main character thinks he is responsible for all of these events in one way or another.
Jar City - a film ofArnaldur Indriðason book from the Erlendur series
A Little Trip To Heaven - an American film in everything except it was made here, odd.

    None are chick flick.

Morning All, Bright and frosty here again this morning. That hot coffee will be needed before I go too far.

The street lights are going off in the morning a little earlier these days. It is light about 8.00am until 6.30pm, sign of the days getting longer. ;)

The all new French lessons start this morning. I hope that our new teacher is not hoping to teach as she will have a shock when she finds out what an anarchic lot we are.

    Morning all...... <ok>

After about 4 weeks solid revising with Mlle Yorkie... .she has her last January AS level exam this morning.... so can draw breath....

Then gird my loins for coursework from now to June.

Was a bit of a shock when we got her report at Xmas to realise she had been freeloading.... <yikes>

Interesting discussion regarding football fiance, Sky revenue etc. Just to add some different thoughts, I really wonder how much influence Sky has or really cares about how it's revenue is spent by the EPL, why would they care? I am far more worried about the incompetence and impotence of the administrators of our game to refuse the ever increasing demands of the Prem clubs to keep as much of the revenue to themselves as they can demand - whilst refusing to pay reasonable compensation for robbing poor clubs of their young talent. Add to this their abject failure in ensuring the owners and directors of football clubs are people that are "fit and proper" to be involved in football, then the sins of Sky are fairly trivial in comparison.

Is it Sky's fault that Bolton are £105M in debt?
