Sorry Dom, missed that. Gerry Hitchens was a bit before my time (just) but he went on to do great things.
I cannot believe one of the greatest goalscorers in the clubs history hasn't had a mention.Robert Earnshaw take a bow son.
Lyndon Jones was always one of my favourites, he looked like captain caveman but boy did he put some tackles in
Lyndon Jones was solid at the back. Around the same time a John Lewis who was a bit like Parry. Lazy loping stride and could drift past a player. Nobody's mentioned Sayer 77. Scored some high profile goals before moving onto Brighton if I recall rightly. Buchannan was some player JH. A little bloke with a cannon in his boot. Not as cultured as Whitts but could thread the eye of a needle with a pass. Ronson was a terrier but a bit wasteful I seem to remember. Tony Evans was another little player who got about the park. I think it said else where, Great Players are few and far between. Cult heros there are many, none more so than 'I saw Ronnie Moore Score'. Ron Healy was always a crowd favourite.
I remember high hopes when we signed Ronnie Moore, sadly he didn't get the goals we hoped for but became a fans favourite for the short time he was with us.
Another Moore - Graham Moore scored the goal that took us up the last time we were in the top flight. We sold him to Chelsea and then he went to Man Utd.
Came to us with a big reputation and loads of goals for Tranmere Taff . Scored very few for us but worked his socks off every game. Went to Rotherham and hit to goals trail again.
My favourite, Bobby Woodruff one of the best players in the mud and did we have some. NP was either mud or sand most of the season.
I thought it was Rotheram that he came from? Gary Stevens was his strike partner if I recall, both tall and strong but couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo when playing for us
Richard Langley Wonder what happened to him... I have to put in a shout for Earnie, Kavanagh... and I was always a fan of Andy Legg. Bellamy isn't a legend but we all love him for that one season, maybe more .. =/ Im going with Earnie and Kav.
Gabbidon??? Who has just scored for QPR, his first goal for 7 years. The last time he scored was for us.
I was watching that game in an empty house, what with Hughes, Bothroyd, Gabs, Mackie etc.... Went nuts when Gabbidon scored, can't believe how young he was when he played for us- good days.
Its got to be Toshack for me. Scored a hatrick in the first half against Hull City on my first ever game.. The rest is history..Clarkie has to be up there also.
Ahh, Clarkie - how the hell could I forget him on this thread. Remember Scoular getting him from Huddersfield to replace Bobby Brown who'd knackered his knee in a league game. I think that injury finished Bobby's career. Clarkie was defo a fav of mine at that time. A gentleman and regular at NP until he sadly passsed away about a year back.
I guess based on the apparent criteria of being with a club since boyhood and a majority of your playing career and being an integral part of your national team. How many greats have the bluebirds really had?
I was fortunate to see him as well 77. Excellent player, but didn't stick around long enough to become a great. Maybe not a legend, but legendary antics on and off the field. Would put Gazza in the shade!
