I'm just sick about us not being able to stuff so-called "lesser" teams.

Look at our goals scored column - it's pathetic. And downright embarrassing.

Indeed, it has gotten so bad that even the Geordies aren't laughing at Carroll anymore...they're actually starting to feel sorry for him.

I think the only way we will ever get any money back on Carroll is if we cut off all of his hair and sell it to Stradivarius for use in very expensive Violin Bows

All this talk of strikers is all very well & good.

But what's happened to our midfield contribution? In seasons past we could rely on them to chip in with a few each, but nowadays there's bugger all.

    Look at 2008-9:

    Gerrard 24
    Torres 17
    Kuyt 15
    Benayoun 9
    Keane 7
    Riera 5
    Babel 4
    Alonso 4
    Lucas 3
    Ngog 3
    Aurelio 3
    Agger 2
    Dossena 2
    Hyypia 2
    Arbeloa 1
    Plessis 1

Would love Sterling to be on the bench, would be the best opportunity for him to play against a lower team... Even though we seem to struggle against these types of teams.

    re: jonesy.

    1. robbie keane 7 goals. just go look at how vital those 7 goals were and who was missing when he played before christmas in 08/09. since then we've not even had a reserve striker and this is why we are and have been on the slide.

    2. benayoun 9 goals... little use but knew where the box was to get at the far post.... so does maxi yet no maxi... hardly ever!

    3. Kuyts 15 goals are badly missed and to be frank mr downing needs his arse kicked big time.

    4. gerrard... well i think if you look at the second striker position and then realise suarez actually only converts 5% of chances you have to wonder if suarez will get 20 goals for us ever.

All in all if we had a fully fit team and comapred the two set ups.
    alonso mascherano
    Kuyt Gerrard rieira
    torres

    (benayoun, keane in reserve)

    to:
    luas adam
    Suarez gerrard downing
    Carroll

    (kuyt, bellamy)

you have to recognise that (more bullets are required)

    1. downing and carroll have flopped so far.

    2. the midifeld is nowehre near as good as it once was

    3. RHC is a fantasist so getting insulted for calling it like it is is no insult at all <ok> aint that right RHC?

All I know is we need to vastly improve as a team and in scoring goals in the 2nd part of this season compared to the first.

Judging by the Stoke performance/result, this simply isn't happening.

Too many players are in their comfort zone and not being worked hard enough.
Just look at what Swansea did to Arsenal - we need that sort of commitment from all areas of the pitch.
It's not enough that we've got one of the best defences in the league. Defences don't win games.

I think we can do better and just think if we can get past city some heads might just pick up. It'd be nice to get a win v bolton a draw v city... suddenly recognise we are ironed on favortes for a cup and have a final to play for.

Then... hit utd with everything we've got!

a final might just perk up a few ner-do-wells.

I'd ply Carroll for this one, as well as Bellamy and Maxi.

    -----------------Reina-----------------
    -Johnson--Skrtel---Agger--Enrique-
    -----------Spearing---Adam----------
    -Maxi--------Gerrard------Bellamy--
    ---------------Carroll------------------

The balls into the box by Gerrard and Bellamy against Oldham were looking great, could have been great for Carroll if he got 90 minutes.

If spearings out I'd like to see Garrard move back and Shelvey start off the striker. Shelvey is a goal threat.

If Agger's out, the Carragher in.

Please play Bellamy and Maxi - I guarantee goals if they do.

I'd have jonjo playing off carroll and gerrard and spearing in the middle.

Nice to be treated as an afterthought <ok>

The fact is that up until Stoke, we've been playing some really good football - just not scoring. I missed the Stoke match as I was in bed smashed, but I gather that we were truly dire.

I think the youngsters have to be involved.....With injuries and suspension, a lot of people are very comfortable in their position and know they will be playing week in week out.....Whack in the young uns and shake it up i say....Only one youngster a week...As we want to play youngsters, but with an experienced spine......

At this point, I could care less who starts, as long as it looks attacking, we are attacking, and going for the jugular early. If we sit back at all against Bolton it will show where our confidence is in the league.

I'd say that we might have an interesting team selection for Sat. Kenny will have eyes on both cup games and will be confident (possibly without warrant!) that we should beat Bolton without all our best players. Hope we win by a few but expect a close 0-1 or 1-2! <ok>

    Bloody hell!!

What a lot of old bollocks going on here...

Why is everyone OBSESSED with a 4-4-****in'2?

If we're not scoring, but are creating chances, make it a 4-3-3. Don't make it a midfield 5 - too negative...

Its not like their midfield is crackerjack or anything...

Gerrard and Maxi directly supporting Bellamy up front.

Midfield three of Henderson, Shelvey and Adam.

    Backline picks itsself, pretty much.

If that midfield 3 gets outnumbered, Gerrard can filter back to support them and when in possession, Shelvey, Gerrard and Henderson should have enough between them to make the late telling runs into the area when Bellamy pulls out wide and pings in the ball...
