Freiburg striker Papiss Cisse has admitted he is flattered to be linked with a move to Premier League side Sunderland. The Black Cats are thought to be on the lookout for striking reinforcements after manager Martin O'Neill hit out at their inability to convert in Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Chelsea. Fraizer Campbell is expected to return following long-term injury shortly, although the future of Ghana international Asamoah Gyan, who is on loan with Al Ain, remains uncertain. Cisse is being tipped to leave the Bundesliga club during the January transfer window and he has admitted an interest in playing Premier League football. The 26-year-old has seen fellow Senegal international Demba Ba doing well in England and he would love to replicate his success. Interest "I'm flattered by the interest of Sunderland and other clubs," he told Sky Sports. "I'd like to one day play in England. "I love the Premier League and want to make my name there like my mate Demba Ba is doing with Newcastle at the moment. "My German club Freiburg has their say as well and I have big respect to that club who made me who I am today." Freiburg's general manager Dirk Dufner has confirmed the club are scouring for potential striking reinforcements as they cannot guarantee Cisse's stay. "We're keeping half an eye out on a new striker, because we're unable to actually rule out a move for Papiss," said Dufner. .
I honestly don't know much about the lad, but if he can match the impact that his mate has achieved in the land of darkness, then get him here...
Cheeky mention for us I see Maybe he'd like to join his teammate here instead Ha, but in all seriousness, I'd be gutted if you lot got him. He's one of my favourite players at the minute and really is a talent. I'd want to go for him ourselves but by all accounts his fee would be a bit on the large side so that's definitely us out! Hope all is grand
9 in 15 this season, 20 + last season in a weak team. How about we sign him and offer them Gyan on loan after his loan end's. We get a goalscorer and put Gyan in the shop window too.
The lad can score goals & that is what we need. I would love for us to sign him we could have done with him on the end of a few of our chances on Saturday.
Well if Ba is his mate that's a bonus. I don't mind him living in Newcastle with a friend to help him settle, as long as he does the job for us.
Yeah they play in the Senegal team together. Who have a front 3 of Cisse, Ba and Sow. Scary stuff! Don't think he'll move in January to be honest. Though there's a possibility of having Ba vs Cisse next season!
If we are interested then that's fine. I know precious little about him still, other than the stats he generates daily. On the surface he seems just what we need in a proven goal scorer but we've been burned before with Gyan. With only 2 and a bit weeks to go however, fingers oot comes to mind?
Looks a class act and the German League is a decent standard so if we could get him for the right price he might be just what we need.
From what I can remember of watching him live he missed a load of sitters too, saying that so did Bent.
He's probably what you need short term. I've watched enough of this guy to know he knows how to find the net. By all accounts, the fans of Senegal worship him, he's top notch when he's having a good game but there's one thing you should know - he's a real feet stamper like Balotelli if things aren't going his way on the pitch, and can spend an entire 90 minutes completely absent from a game as if you were playing with 10 men. To round this review up, he's by no means what you need long term. Those of you who have done your research will already know this but this guy is clearly trying to engineer a move for himself during the midst of his current team needing him more than ever (exhibit A - http://www.bundesliga.de/en/liga/tabelle/index.php) Good finisher? Certainly. Loyal? Absolutely not. Another GYAN.
I take on board what you say about the loyalty thing mate, but there's more to it than that. The facts are that SC Freiburg are a tiny club, to just be in the Bundesliga is a massive achievement for them, and finishing 9th last season was massively in part to Cisse's goals. The lad is in his mid-twenties, and he will be on a tiny wage in comparison to what he could, and probably should be earning in respect of what he's done in the last year and a half. Loyalty is a wonderful thing, but it simply doesn't exist in football, especially when you are talking about a foreign player at a no mark club, who has never yet had the opportunity in his career to make his wealth, this is a player that I can understand wanting to move on.
If receiving £6m for a year's loan is called getting burned, can someone please douch me with petrol? My name is Guy Fawkes, believe it.
MONsMush Regardless of everything you've said, that club gave him a platform to showcase his talents, and whilst they are in trouble and he is their player he should be fully focussed on his task instead of trying to jump ship. They pay his wages to score goals for the team, not to tell the world via the media that he is flattered by transfer talk. It's unprofessional whether the club are minnows or not. You lot are a relatively small club on the grand scale of things and you didn't like it when Sessegnon started yapping to the media when Bruce was still in charge did you?
Would be a fantastic signing, he certainly know were the goal is even if it means he joining mid Feb after ACN it would be worth it Cisse and Gyan upfront next season?
Like many others I have not seen the lad play, but it is good that we are getting talked about being interested in a striker the silence has been deafening, hopefully no smoke without fire. I have said before we need reinforcements up front, if MoN is happy with this lad then so am I. I take it he is the ACN atm with his mate Demba Ba, does that mean signing difficult during the window, perhaps we can get both of them... If taking part in a tournament in a different continent means logistically signing somebody is not possible, I hope we find suitable targets that are soon!
