Like that was news to anyone.... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...striker-to-save-the-club-from-relegation.html
We've needed a striker for years yet no-one has succeeded in signing a decent one (Helguson apart possibly). Should be top priority.
It's amazing that this has been our weakness for some time yet, halfway through the window and we're not even close to signing a striker (or are we?). It would make a massive difference. Signing a £10m striker could add £40m to revenue next year if we stay up. I know it's simplistic but surely it's not that difficult? I only hear words at the moment, where is the action??!!!!
The trouble is, we're rich and desperate, and clubs are leaving it until the 11th hour in the hope that by then we'll be rich and absolutely f*cking desperate and prepared to cough up whatever's asked. All this talk about Hughes' war chest hasn't helped.
It's a Catch 22. If the money is there, all the industry insiders will know it anyway, without shouting it from the rooftops. But publicising it does have the plus of letting potential players know we are serious. But overall just ups the ante, and drives us towards last minute signings. Apparently Liverpool now in for Defoe....
Biggest understatement ever! Should be obvious to everyone now that Bothroyd is never going to cut it at this level our that miss from 8 yards cemented that fact. The lack of firepower has cost us dearly this season the inability to finish teams off, Newcastle, Aston Villa and West Brom at home spring to mind. Whoever we sign has to come in and hit the ground running and start hitting the back of the net!
Agreed SB, it does drive us towards last minute signings. We could see another panic on the last day of the transfer window with potential new players setting off for Loftus Road in helicopters and on motorbike taxi's to try and sign in time....
Goldie, now I have a scene reminiscent of 'Monte Carlo or Bust' fixed in my head. It's QPR, so has to be a comedy....
Very true. A decent striker yesterday, plus a whisker of luck and we'd have won 2/3-1. That's equally due to newcastle's lack of serious threat and shouldn't mask our numerous, obvious weaknesses. But it's true.
My worry now is that the deals don't get done until the last few days of the window and the element of panic will set in and MH will have to take what ever he is offered. Trying to attract top quality players while we are in the bottom three is going to be difficult although more would consider the move under MH than Warnock (IMO). The next problem is getting the new batch of players to fit in to the team in a short space of time in order to make the most of the next few games. We don't have the luxury of letting the new players settle in to the team, they have to be ready to make an impact right away. Tony Fernandes was interviewed on SKY yesterday and said he would not pay over the odds for anyone but if we have to compete with the likes of Spuds for Samba then a couple of £million will be stuck on the asking price and the owners will have to dig deep to find the funds.
Does Hughes strike you as the sort of person who will panic buy? Me neither. We may pay a bit over the odds to get who he wants in, but I don't think we will see the pointless Puncheon type acquisitions. The balance will be players for the short term keep us up needs, versus longer term thrive in the Prem. Ideal would be players who meet both needs - Alex injury free would be one of these.
Again SB I agree but its the next 7 or so games that will make or break our season. Any new signings need to be available now in reality as with our run in I can't see us taking many points form the last half dozen games. We need to go on a 3 - 4 game winning streak which means a complete volte-face from our current 9 game winless streak. The odds are well and truly stacked against us. I also am slightly worried that Blackburn have hit a patch of form, beating Man U and Fulham, at completely the wrong time for us and Wolves look pretty resilient. Bolton / Wigan / Blackburn / Wolves and us. Need to beat these 4 big time.
so desperate for one but these clubs know it & will up the price for any player we are after, i win tomorrow might give us a bit of confidence as we've been unlucky & not had the rub of the green, looking at norwich & swansea they are no better than us its just that they've been scoring goals & well the rest is history.
Freezing UK Just watched highlights and we need a couple of players but nothing major IMO .... If you look at this without without a manic fickle approach then you will see that we play good football its this easy ... if and of course its a big if to most of you ... the two efforts that hit woodwork went in then there would be a load of good comments on this board Because we didn't get the result then its doom and gloom and its really time the average QPR fan should get behind the team as we have turned into a team that seems to suffer now at will.... it also breeds a poor feeling and energy and I for one reckon it maybe best to get off this forum ... Northolt has sent me through a new forum via twitter so it maybe adios amigos
Agree WBA, a new spine - CB, midfielder for Ali and goalscorer would be ideal this week. But then the next league match is February. Do you think we would be better off out of the Cup giving Hughes plenty of time on the training ground, or blooding newbies against Chelsea? I genuinely don't know.......
http://www.talksport.co.uk/magazine/features/2012-01-16/six-strikers-mark-hughes-shopping-list-video-highlights-and-photos? YES PLEASE! Either one will do
Having seen all bar two (Everton away and Sunderland at HQ) of our games this season we can't keep trotting out the "unlucky" and "rub of the green" phrases Bottom line is that we currently - as a starting 11 and as a squad - simply aren't good enough. Too many goals conceded and not enough scored - same old story I'm very concerned that we won't get in the players that we need at all let alone within the next few days. The current squad may get a few results, but we really need to pile on the points in the next few weeks - out run-in is such that the last few games may be academic I'll never stop getting behind the team and the club - over 30 years of supporting the Rrrsss won't allow me to do anything else - but what is so frustrating is how this great opportunity to consolidate in the top division may be slipping away
