He is not on about that tho is he, he is saying any signings. Adkins would know how Hooper behaves etc he has managered him before. Adkins will only bring in players that improve us. He will also only bring in players that don't have a attitude problem etc. To just stagnate and keep the squad the same, hoping the youngsters can make the step up is madness. When you think if we go up we are guaranteed 90mil. Don't you think it is worth the gamble to splash the cash a little?. We have hardly any competition for places in our squad bringing in a couple of players will change this. This in turn will give our players the extra kick up the arse they need.
Well, perhaps I need to move with the times. I just value the spirit of the squad very highly. It wasn't long ago a few saints were saying Beckford would do a job for us. Personally, I'd rather fail without that sort of player than fail with them.
It's all about spending wisely, doing your homework on a player. Leicester just went for the big names, but then again that is Ericsson for you.
Lambbanna could do Wright sometime if you dont buy a used player a nonused playerwill play. example at Nacional. Very Good
Beckford.......Nooo - Right player but not the right sort of person Rodriguez, Rhodes, Maynard..overpriced, don't know what kind of person they are All the above would have to learn 'the Adkins way' and may not fit into his style of play. Hooper - A lot of money but Adkins already knows if he will fit, already knows if he is the right kind of person. Should be up and running straight away with 'The Adkins style of play'. I personally don't think any big signing will rock the boat. Adkins will not bring in the wrong kind of person as he is very much a 'team spirit' manager. The only thing that could rock the boat is if too many players are brought in. I don't think that will happen so I cannot see any problem if we spend a lot on one player. Adkins will only bring in that 1 player if it doesn't upset the team spirit and if that player has the right character. Up until Christmas I was very much in the 'no need to sign anyone' corner whilst everyone else was saying we have to pay 6m for Rodriguez or Maynard. More because of the team spirit than not needing anyone however I didn't think we had a hope in hell of getting Hooper. I am starting to think there is a chance though and I am also starting to think that Adkins and Cortese are preparing for that 'Ground shaking signing' (or whatever description they made) a month or so ago!!!!
We have some good players out injured that that will hopefully be returning soonish. Connolly, since he has come back has been looking sharp, and how far are Chaplow, Barnard and Seabourne from a comeback. Bedding in some of the nippers (thank you, FA Cup) might be advisable. Also, we don't know how good Lee is yet?.
Forte was signed as backup for L1. Bit different. We are now looking for backup or first choice for Prem (fingers crossed we get there)
