Red, I swear at footie matches but if there are kids around I mind my P's and Q's. I guess I am kind of old fashioned that way

Ah well..as long as it doesn't get too busy, i'll survive lol. Off to work now though, so see you soon! Have a great day one and all
Enjoy your day H, I will try and catch up throughout the week, depending on the interweb connection in Paris!
Morning All, Not a cloud in the blue sky this morning, but a good heavy frost and -2C at the moment. Everywhere you look the sun is reflecting off of the trees and hedgerows creating a splendid scene. Monday morning and I should be suffering French irregular verbs, past historic use of the language etc. but my lessons came to an abrupt halt with the bad news that our teacher having had tests before Christmas is now receiving treatment for three months in the hope of avoiding an operation. Still in her thirties, with three children under ten, we are all thinking of her and hope for a successful outcome. Although I have often gone on about the horrors of my lessons, she is a great person who I quite adore, always helpful in many ways and extremely patient with an aging brain. It does not mean that lessons are no more as a new teacher has been found and she will be putting us through our paces on a Tuesday morning instead. It is strange, but a Tuesday morning seems better than Monday morning. It must be something to do with going back to work after a couple of days off.
Morning all, the sun is out, but i think we have got Frenchie's clouds. There is still frost on the ground and its very brisk!
Have a great trip Al! How awful Frenchie, i'll send a few good thoughts for your teacher too...it can't hurt... Still pretty icy round here, love doing lessons with petrified girls in the ice
Afternoon all Frosty morning here but the sun is doing its best to warm things up a bit. Mrs H is busy learning a few phrases of Arabic (e.g. no, I really don't want to buy a carpet) prior to our trip to Morocco in February. I tend to content myself with yes, no, thank you and go away...
What about the important phrases like 'beer please' and 'another beer please' and 'more beer please'?
BB, vital in almost every language to be sure...but alcohol isn't always openly available. Mint tea, often described as 'Moroccan whisky' is ubiquitous and I suspect in some places may contain leaves of another variety altogether...
Hello all, well the nimbys are at it again, trying to **** us over with our new planned stadium, good thing though our owner came on the radio and said we will get it built, here's hoping Wigan vs Man City later, come on Wigan
There are some good articles coming out of Darlington at the moment. There was the post on here from a fan asking for support and another on the official web site. http://www.darlington-fc.net/page/NewsDetail/0,,10339~2570479,00.html On the day that the administrator dismissed the manager and players it is difficult to see where they go from here. They have a stadium that puts some Championship ones (no names mentioned) to shame, yet through bad decisions by owners it looks as if doom day may have arrived. To my way of thinking football has got it all wrong. When I read of £20m offers for one player who really doesn't seem to care if he plays or not, then I think about the clubs that could provide a service to the fans and towns that they represent if they had a fraction of that sort of money. I do not know quite how it can be done, but it is time that supporters were given a voice and listened to within the clubs that they help to keep going by just paying for admission.
Oh so true, frenchie, oh so true. The game is virtually awash with money, but 90% of it appears to be in the EPL who, for reasons best known to themselves, appear to be hell bent on crucifying everyone below them by grabbing as much of the cash for themselves - clubs and players alike. There's simply no morality left in a game that is now all business instead of part business/part sport. Like you, I've no idea what can done either - unless the root cause is attacked ie the source of the money. I suspect the bulk of income comes from SKY & if enough people threatened to, or actually did, cancel their subscriptions to the sports channels unless a reasonable slice of the pie was allowed to filter down - that may have some effect. But I can't see that happening anytime soon We are bound to reach a point where, sooner or later, the structure of the game will no longer be there to offer career pathways to kids and they will mostly drift away to find something else - leaving the game to implode.
I am afraid that as fans we are almost not necessary anymore apart from going through the turnstiles, buying a pie and a programme, so keeping the cash flow coming in weekly, rather than waiting for the latest TV cheque to arrive. The on going saga at Portsmouth, still far from resolved, shows how a club can be carved up by people who are simply trying to make money out of land development etc. and the football is purely secondary. If you remember the fans raised money when they found out that charities had not been paid monies that they were due, and what thanks have they received? The administrators at the top of the game are prepared to say that any crook is alright if he can put some money into a club, even if he is simply charging it to that club, and when an owner is shown up for what he really is, they go very quiet. How many more times has the question got to be asked about the F&PPT? They seem to create rules such as the football creditors one to suit themselves. Why cannot they create something that will ensure that fans have a proper role within clubs, giving them the power to have a say on who can buy into them? Pie in the sky I know, but as you say BB, sooner or later the structure will implode.
When people complain about players' wages to me (and they frequently do - usually those who wouldn't know one end of a football from the other), I ask them only one question - do they subscribe to Sky? The argument that "we don't subscribe to Sky Sports, only Sky 1, Sky Films etc. etc" does not wash - after all, Sky have not hesitated in the past to subsidise one channel with another. The answer is simple - stop subscribing to Sky and football (and sport in general) will have to look for the money elsewhere or reduce costs. Or continue to subscribe and accept that top level football in this country is a commodity for the armchair fan - look elsewhere for football action - like the lower leagues and non-league. Or am I being too simplistic?
it's just another sign that the moneymen are changing football far too much, and the smaller clubs are the ones that will suffer long term. It's sickening. Darlington fans are in my thoughts today...i hope a miracle happens, but it doesn't seem likely after today's news.
I have just finished my day. I started my work at kl7:15. Most was for pay but some is not. I am taxi father, secretary father etcetera.
Don't like Sky. won't be getting sky. even though freeview is being a pain tonight. Must be something to do with the digital switchover. Sound keeps cutting out and had no signal at all for about 10 minutes. And t'internet is being slow... must be a sign that I should read a... what's it called again... a book? or something like that?
