so it is reported that Jol might let briggs go out on loan, for me i think this is a mistake i feel if this happens then who have we got to fight for places with Riise?

Briggs should be brought into the first team as with him and Frei in the team looks more energised.

I think JA Riise is one of Jols favorites, but for me Riise is part of the defensive problem.

To me Riise is always marauding forward but does not have the energy to get back a lot of the times late in the game.
Leaving the defense open to counter attacks, and Hangeland having to cover for him
making the central defense vulnerable. There are a large amount of goals we have given away because of this.
With the system Jol plays I don't see that he needs over-lapping full backs, especially ones who can't cross the ball
    on the run.

Putting Briggs out on loan doesn't make sense !!!! (unless it's to go to Arsenal :emoticon-0112-wonde).
We are not especially blessed with left full-backs.

I think he has something to offer to the first team but if Jol is reluctant to play him it only makes sense that he goes out on loan. Experience is priceless. Looks like Bristol City are interested so half a season in the Championship could do him the world of good.

Some of Jols decisions to me can be baffling,re : the idolization of Riese, & the report of loaning out Briggs.
All and sundry knows we need 1 if not 2 solid defenders, & a goal scoring c/f.
are we at the seasons end, going to praise him putting him on the Roy pedestal,or be relegated to the muppet
section of managers we have had in the past.
Fact is if you are a struggling team ,you will have difficulty attracting quality.

The guy is good enough for the Premier League and should under no circumstances be loaned out when he is one of our only 2 left backs in the squad. Sure we would have a recall option, but as has been mentioned, who would be there to put pressure on Riise's apparently untouchable squad status.

Don't even get me started on his woeful shooting.

Confirmed (pretty much) that he's off to Bristol City for the rest of the season. Shame.

I know he needs to develop but honestly, he can't be more of a liability than Riise yesterday. I can only hope it was on his own insistance to get games and the club agreed fearing that he would otherwise get pinched from under their noses. Goodness knows what the plan B is if injuries or suspensions come along - not that Riise gets close enough to foul anyone - Kelly back to left back (ugh!)?

Agreed with all, but if Jol isn't going to play him he might as well get some playing time elsewhere. Perhaps the plan is to get him some good experience now to take over from Riise next season.

How old is Riise? 31? 32? I can see him being our first choice left back for a few seasons yet...

Hows this for a scary though, Briggs is going to be shipped out so Salcido can come and slot into the backup left back position?

I'm still shuddering at Bidley's image of Bandy getting a hold of himself.

The rumor mill was saying several months ago that man U were running the rule over Briggs.
He could be ok for them, but definitely not of the standard we would expect.:emoticon-0102-bigsm
