In the days when I used to play football manager, I had a Spurs team with Teddy and Charlie Sheringham as the strike partnership. Needless to say it was useless with Teddy over 40 and Charlie about 17, but I had to stick with them due to sentiment.

I got drunk and signed Crouch and Andrew Johnson on one game. Ended up winning the league with them and Shefki Kuqi as backup #Levysignmeup.

My best ever signing was Javier Chevanton. Got him on a free as a back up striker and he ended up scoring 55 goals in one season!

Another example of the French view of things: "I did not have a clear view of the incident."

Rodallega is not the answer, that's for sure. Asamoah Gyan could've been a good back-up, but his advisors went for the Arabic pay day.

If we somehow loaned in Drogba we'd be doing very well, but the odds of that are minuscule to even the most optimistic Talksport contributor. Berbatov could be another option, but that would require a lot of bridge rebuilding.

I tend to agree with Luke here.

There's something about this, that to me is a bit of a gamble. I think there's other strikers we could put the 20 mill towards. Maybe I'm just not that fond of remy... I don't know. I guess he's as much of a gamble as any other player out of the prem that costs 20 mill.

Also, if there's really this release clause in Ba's contract, we should be all over that. Business is business.

I think a bit of perspective here, Harry goes to watch a lot of players and so do, I suspect the coaching staff and the scouts- we know that Harry loves to chat to the media so him being in France just fills more gossip inches.
Daniel Levy doesn't do his negotiations in the glare of the media, so we really don't know if we are or aren't after certain players.
If Ba has a very cheap buy out clause i'm sure most of the PL 's top clubs have him in their radar(I also hope its us).

I've noticed the use of the phrase "£15m-rated striker Loic Remy" in the gossip columns today. Not sure where £5m went overnight, but it is a more palatable fee.

It's not the first time they've been kind enough to link themselves to Defoe - Benitez was remarkably blatant about it a few seasons back (before electing to tap up Robbie Keane instead)

Remy has said in an interview that he won't be leaving Marseilles yet, maybe in the summer.

Aside from the on-going Remy news, Spurs have featured elsewhere in the gossip today:

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is ready to test Tottenham with a £10m offer for unsettled striker Jermain Defoe, 29. (£10m for Defoe is cheap in my book)

Bolton boss Owen Coyle is ready to swoop for Tottenham's 22-year-old striker Giovani dos Santos in a £4m deal. (Interesting although GDS has said he wants to go back to Spain)

And of course... Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is seemingly still keen on Marseille's £15m rated French forward Loic Remy,25, after jetting out to see him score twice for his side in their 2-0 win over Lille.

I saw Remy's goals on SSN - decent enough. He clearly has talent and an eye for goal - there's always the risk of whether or not he can perform at the same level in the PL.

Regardless of our 'official' stance on Remy, I'd rather we either bid now or not at all - I'd prefer we didn't sign him (or anyone for that matter) at 9:30pm on the 31st.

agreed morpheus, that is cheap for Defoe. he's an instinctive striker that we'd struggle to replace for that money.

Remy - if we're going to bid, I would rather it was today so he'll be available for 22/01/12 at 1.30pm!

Well, I think this was what perrymanlegend was referring to earlier - http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/20876/7435653/Remy-I-m-not-leaving

We need someone - that much is clear. Adebayor won't take the massive wage cut to stay with us and so that leaves us (in terms of senior strikers) with just Defoe and Pav. It's just a question of whether or not we take the risk with our current 3 to the end of the season and buy in Summer or do we try and ship out Pav now and bring someone in.

It's a difficult one. We all agree that we need another striker - the marquee striker that we've all been wanting for 12-18months. who that will be... none of us know, but we've got a few ideas. In my opinion, it'd bea good idea to get that striker in this window, to integrate him into the team. However, if prices are blown out of proportion, wecan forget that happening.

if pav leaves in this window, we seriously need to consider another striker to replace him also. if we get any injuries, (which is likely as the season progresses and takes its toll) we'll struggle if he's not replaced.

we've got 1 game coming up where we haven't got Ade, and already everyone's really concerned about what the team will be and how we'll replace his presence. I know everyone's got their views on Ade, such as "he misses too many chances" etc etc, but we don't have anyone who can replace him. Last year we all complained about how the Defoe and VDV partnership didn't work, so that leaves us with Pav. - sorry lads, but IMO Pav is just too much of a gamble to do the job. he's amazing about 1 game in 10. for the other 9, he's lazy, doesn't get involved and constantly lets the side down with his horrific first touch.

in summary, we need a marquee signing in this window if possible, or at the very least, a replacement for Pav if he leaves. - that's better than him.

A bit from the BBC Sportsday feed:

1337 FOOTBALL: Tottenham refuse to speculate on stories linking Jermain Defoe with a £10m move to Liverpool. The club said their policy was not to talk about speculation but manager Harry Redknapp did tell the press on Friday that he wanted to keep hold of the player.

I can't believe that we haven't killed this rumour off straight away - perhaps there is some truth to it after all :(

If we sell Defoe but keep Pav... #preparingforanger
