in getting the best out of young players, hes one of the best in the world..but tactically, he's terrible. take this season for example.

at home to the mighty crawley fc. we decide to line up 433.

then, away at stamford bridge, we line up 442.

then, again, away at liverpool with a decimated defence, chooses to play 442. surely a bit of protection to the defence isn't einstein?

    doesn't seem right to me.

so you honestly think it's a good idea to play an open 442 game with 2 slow, immobile central midfielders in front of a back 4 of rafael-brown-smalling-evra?

Honestly as soon as you criticise fergie you lose all credibility. there are many examples of how brilliant he is.

i might not have all the trophy's he's got, not yet any way...but surely adding a little bit of protection to a decimated back 4 is hardly asking too much? after all, he's decided it was the formation of choice against the mighty crawley fc.

Anyone who can get away with fielding 12 players deserves respect IMO. <ok>

Ferguson is a great tactician, but sometimes lets his attacking instincts get the better of him. He was clearly going for the win today and at SB, when we should probably have been aiming for draws. He's made that mistake before, but most often in European games. When he wants to attack the opposition and go for the win, he doesn't seem to consider the need to counter their formation / players.

And to be fair none of the goals we conceded have been due to tactics, they've all been due to errors. VDS for the third, Nani for the second and Brown and Carrick for failing to make straightforward challenges for the third.
