Can anyone work Pardew out? Im not saying he is wrong, im just looking for an explanation as to why he chooses certain things for others? Because even though I disagree with him at times (or other people), you at least understand where they are coming from.

    So...

    a) Ben Arfa doesn't start.
    b) Our tactics were to 'hoof it' which were abysmal.
    c) Our best passer comes off injured, so he brings on HBA.
    d) With our best passer off the pitch, we ditch the long ball to play passing football...?
    e) We had Best left wing, HBA right wing, Raylor in centre midfield, Jonas in the 'free role'
    f) He brings Perch on then plays Jonas left wing, Raylor in the 'free role'
    g) Considering HBA played on the right wing of a 5 man midfield, why didnt he start their then, or play their earlier in the season?
    h) Considering hoof ball is total b*llocks, why didnt he start with 4-5-1?
    i) Since when does Jonas suddenly become the free role man instead of HBA?, he did will mind.
    j) Best left wing? Really? He did ok.
    k) How poor are QPR and that must be our worst win of the season taking over from the Wigan game.

Work the above out and we win 1-0 and sit 6th after 21 games.

    Howay the lads!

I think he's shown his tactics are insanely unpredictable. You get masterpieces ala Stoke, Man U and absolute **** like thefirst 20 minutes. But hey 6th place says he's doing something right that other managers aren't

Its mad. We play like **** then Cabaye gets injured. Next thing were 1-0 up and pretty comfortable for the next 50 minutes.

I thought 2nd half we passed more, we only hoofed it because we were being closed down the majority of the time. Some times we did hoof when we could have passed but we aren't Barcelona or Spain.

Pardew works with the players everyday.

Im sure he knows their strengths and weaknesses alot better than we do.

Although the tactics may not have been perfect today from our point of you, you really can't argue too much when you win and keep a clean sheet.

I liked how we were playing in that weird formation when Cabaye came off.

I didn't understand where anybody was playing today. Think it was play wherever you want lol. Even Williamson went up front one time haha.

A wins a win and I think QPR just made it hard for us really - typical Mark Hughes team. On QPR - why the **** was SWP playing holding midfield when he is their most threatening player? lol

I think he is an old schooler who rewards players who work hard in training, who buy into his team ethic, who have a good attitude and who will work hard generally for each other. Perch, Ameobi and Ober probably all fit into this category.

I have to agree that there were decisions today that I found baffling. But i'm guessing that Mark Hughes did too, so maybe chaos theory has a place in Pardew's tactical thinking.

We got the points though so i'm not going to complain. Just so long as Pardew knows what he is doing i'm happy to rely on his judgement.

Didn't watch the game (some people have to work weekends <wah>), but Jonas was very impressive in the free role towards the end of last season.

I think Benny not starting was at least partly to do with Wright-Phillips attacking down the left.

However, we have GOT to sign another striker. Shola was abysmal.

O.K I'm going to play devil's advocate and attempt to answer all the questions

    a) Trying to replicate the Man U game
    b) Same as the above, we had two target men and this was our only legitimate route to goal really
    c) Realises hoof ball isn't working wants to change things with HBA
    d) Again same as the above, HBA has great close control and loves the ball at his feet as do Guthrie, Guti, Besty
    e) We flooded the midfield, changed things up and messed up QPR's game plan. It was a toss-up between HBA and Guti in the free role
    f) As much as no-one likes Perch, he helps to close out a game and is a fresh pair of legs, the centre of midfield was freeform with Raylor, Guti, HBA and Guthrie moving about where they felt appropriate
    g) Pardew wanted to play HBA behind the striker(s) because he felt he was one of the most creative players on the pitch and may also create a further goal threat, he did this to an extent but his talents are put to better use on the wing as evidenced by the Blackburn game
    h) Hoofball can work when BOTH strikers are up for it e.g the Man U game unfortunately Shola was too busy thinking about what he was having for tea and didn't pull his weight
    i) Jonas played the free role well at the end of last season and I feel like he played it well today
    j) Hardest one to understand, probably just trying to disrupt QPR's gameplan, he scored so you can't really complain but I feel he could have got more if he stayed further forwards
    k) QPR were rather bad and we gave them too much respect, way too much backing off allowed them to get shots in. Tiote would have been perfect for this game. Our spell between Cabaye's injury and half time was very good though.
