The FA must be expecting Saggy to be going somewhere?

    Sauce.... The People.

TOON boss Alan Pardew has emerged as the wild card in the race to succeed Fabio Capello as England boss.

Pardew, 50, is now a genuine contender alongside West Brom’s Roy Hodgson and favourite Harry Redknapp after enjoying a dream first year in charge at Newcastle.

Capello stands down after this summer’s European Championship and Pardew is now being talked about in the corridors of power at the FA’s Wembley headquarters as a serious candidate – particularly with concerns mounting over Redknapp’s January 23 court case to face a charge of tax evasion.

The one-time glazier has guided Newcastle to their best start in the Premier League for 17 years, taking four points from Manchester United on the way.

And he has done it without splashing vast amounts of cash – helped by some excellent recommendations from his chief scout Graham Carr.

Off the field, Pardew has split up the player power so disliked by any club hierarchy with the sales of Joey Barton, Kevin Nolan and Andy Carroll and the demotions of Steve Harper and Alan Smith.

No-one knows Pardew better than his former Crystal Palace team-mate Gareth Southgate, now the FA’s Head of Elite Development.

The former England defender is increasingly influential at the FA and he speaks warmly of Pardew calling him a “meticulous planner”.

    And the express....

Southgate admits: “I know how meticulous Alan is in terms of preparation.

“When he has not been in a job, he has been travelling and has put his time in studying different methods of training. It’s been a great education for him.”

Pardew is 14 years younger than both Redknapp and Roy Hodgson, with his career in the ascendancy. Redknapp’s high-profile tax case begins later this month, while Hodgson blotted his copybook in some people’s eyes by failing
at high-profile Liverpool. Not only did Pardew, whose side entertain Mark Hughes’ QPR this afternoon, lead
the Geordies to a respectable 12th place last season – it would have been ninth if they hadn’t lost a 3-0 lead against West Brom on the final day – but they have pushed on to become the surprise package of the Premier League
    this time around.

The club’s success against considerable odds has all been accomplished despite losing established stars like Andy Carroll, Kevin Nolan, Joey Barton and Jose Enrique. With theconsiderable input of chief scout Graham Carr, cheaper and hungrier replacements like Cheick Tiote, Yohan Cabaye and Demba Ba (below left) have all made their mark.

It’s Pardew (right) who has supplied the glue to keep things together – the comradeship, diligence and flashes of inspiration, which were never more obvious than in the 3-0 victory over Manchester United on January 4.

Central defender Steven Taylor, who had been a cornerstone of the Newcastle revival until an Achilles injury wrecked his season, said: “He’s a perfectionist. He’s meticulous.

“He likes his computer stuff, his projectors and his heartrate monitors.”It's why Pardew is a realistic contender to become England's next boss, especially with people in the game believing he has matured to become a more rounded person.

His critics believed that as boss at Upton Park he rose above his station at times, although those close to him, like Southgate, believed that was more confidence than arrogance.

Southgate insisted: “He’s served his apprenticeship.

“He was at Reading, did a superb job at West Ham, then went to Charlton and was doing a good job at Southampton, where they had a massive points deduction for going into administration.”

But he has enjoyed few better years than his 12 months in charge of Newcastle – something that hasn’t gone unnoticed in the corridors of power within the FA’s Wembley powerbase.

This would be an appealing attribute to the FA. Lot of egos on show in that dressing room.

Frankly however I have a multitude of issues with Pardew taking over. Besides the fact it would leave us up **** creek without a paddle, there's also:
    1) He's too defensive - this problem also applies to Hodgson but would be a quick way to get the fans on his back
    2) His best work is done with a small squad - not choosing from the gigantic pool
    3) He's only ever going to be a short-term solution - everyone knows Pearce will take over in a couple of years.

If Redknapp does end up out of the running, my money is still on Hodgson, solely for the fact he has international management experience - and was very good at it.

Said for a long time that the FA will not pick Saggy face. Good because he won't have 60m to bail him out with England. No thanks. His dodgy dealings and the general murky grey cloud he has dogging his career is just awful PR for them and poor commercially when the press turn on him like they do with everyone. Its like Barton. He would never be picked by England, the FA wouldn't allow it. With Pardew I wouldn't fancy it. He's still clearly learning his trade. I like Pearce and think he has been learning from the very best in Capello. But again his experience is limited. That said its not when it comes to international football, and its unique and very different from club football.

I'm not sure Pardew has enough of a track record but I'd have him over Cappello or Hodges... also I think we lost one of the best England managers we had due to dodgy behaviour (Venables) so why would the FA pick another and Redknap would be a scandal waiting to happen.

You could always get a certain boyhood supporter as your manager... (runs for cover)

The only English options are Redkanpp, Hodgson, and Pardew realistically.

Pardew has as much chance as any of those based on the top job he's done in the past year for us, and he also showed at West Ham he was a good manager. He's a great man manager and can galvanise a team.

But I think he's strong willed, and he's set out to achieve something here and will want to carry on building his own team, and his own legacy if all goes to plan.

    Hughton should get it. <ok>

I won't worry about this too much until Pardew actually changes his name to Alain Pardieu, or something else continental, until that point I don't think the FA will be too interested.

Think he might turn it down if they approach him. Don't think they will though. They would go for Pearce before Pardew and Pearce would accept it imo.

Also, got a horrible feeling about Fat Sham...

They were talking about this after we beat Stoke. Then we go on a poor run and nobody mentions it until we beat Man Utd 3-0 and now he's a good manager again. The press are so fickle.
