QPR boss Hughes planning to dump Barton Submitted by tribalfootball.com on Sun, 01/15/2012 - 02:01 QPR boss Mark Hughes is planning to sell captain Joey Barton. The Sunday Mirror says highly placed Rs sources believe Barton is unlikely to figure in Hughes’ long-term plans. Hughes took over last week, following the sacking of Neil Warnock, and vowed to grab the chance to build a club of substance. Warnock was the boss who recruited controversial Barton on a free transfer last August and made him Rs’ captain.
I can't see too many of the current QPR squad figuring in Hughes' "long-term plans". "Sources" stating the bleedin' obvious.
That's right. Long term is what 4-5 years? In which case you could say that about any 30 year old at any of the clubs in the EPL....with the exception of scholes. Think he's still in SAFs long term plans.
If Hughes wanted him out he may find the £80k a week wages putting off potential suitors, with a long contract there'd be a hefty transfer fee as well so this would be similar to the Tevez situation at Man City on a lower scale...
Please let this be true ! Someone needs to stand up to that barely mediocre player who we signed on £80k a week and made captain. Signing Barton was Warnock's biggest mistake.
Usual poor journalism! Of course he will be in his plans, there are much more pressing areas to worry about than Joey Barton!
Beard denying any knowledge of this on Radio 5 live this morning. But he didn't say categorically that it would not happen. Hughes seems to be looking with critical eyes at SRP too - SRP needs a rocket up his ar*e because he's effective when he want to be.
If this team doesn't start picking up points soon there'll be no long term future for Hughes. He wont work in the Championsip and will move on! All this is irrelevant s..t!
QPR chief Phillip Beard has dismissed speculation that captain Joey Barton will be among the first players moved on by new manager Mark Hughes. A Sunday newspaper has suggested that the 29-year-old midfielder is unlikely to figure in Hughes's long-term plans. But Beard told BBC Sport that he was "flabbergasted" to hear the news. "I can categorically tell you there's been no discussions in the time I've spent with Mark or his team this week about anyone leaving," he added. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16565514.stm
Surely they must have talked about someone leaving. Are we just going to add players without getting rid of anyone ? Agree with Thorpepark in that there is no long-term for anyone if we get relegated. Warnock will have the last laugh just as he did when Sheffield Utd replaced him with Bryan Robson.
