You legend. I'm doing the same, got kicked out the cavendish for wearing my top and people trying to fight. Where's the banter gone?
TBH, I jumped in a black cab. My missus was moaning about the cold. But as I walked out, all the weds fans were very decent saying we deserved it and we were the best team they have seen. Fair play for them being nice, but that game was far from pretty. I'm now in some old man pub because we got told to leave varsity as my missus was wearing her shirt. We would go back to the hotel first, but it's neat meadowhall. Met a Barnsley fan- he said Haynes is a top player, but under the new manager never got a chance. Hill is the manager? Apparently he and Haynes had a huge bust up.
Mmm - nice curry. OK let's talk about the referee and officials. Bloody awful, the three of them. The referee booked three Wednesday players and really should have booked six, how Johnson wasn't booked for the waist high body check that flattened Pritchard for the decisive free kick, goodness only knows - poetic justice that. He missed countless elbows, shirt tugs and holding. He failed to stop play twice for clear head injuries. When Kermorgant was booked for kicking the ball away, the lino had flagged for a blatant hold on BWP and he looked to be taking a quick free kick. Neither of the linos seemed to have read the law on foul throws recently, both in the hand positioning and the positioning of the feet and when one particularly dodgy specimen was taken, a wag behind me shouted "it's not f*****g netball, lino!" Both of them seemed also to be having some difficulty determining when the ball had gone out of play. A couple of concerns on our play - 'concerns' is as strong as I'll go after this wonderful performance - firstly, Green seems to have lost the will/ability to take on his man, preferring to lay off the ball instead; secondly Hamer's distribution is terribly predictable, always the same ball out right onto Kermorgant's head, after three or four today, the CBs were easily picking them off; thirdly, BWP's mojo seems to have temporarily deserted him, it doesn't seem to be just a scoring blip, he should have buried that one-on-one today - OK, it was a solid piece of keeping from Weaver but it was right at him - he had a good game with no protection from the referee at all but he needs a goal of any type to set him off again, let's hope it's soon. Like against The Blades next week.
Walking back to the car afterwards, a local neanderthal grunted "thought you were top of the league - pretty pathetic turnout by your fans today" I told him that we'd just taken 7000 to Fulham for the Cup and that we were all pretty skint after Christmas, to which he replied (and I kid you not) "are Cockneys (sic) ever skint?" I blame Care in the Community...
Owlstalk is good fun today. If anyone wants to have a read on there today, do bear in mind that Wednesday are by their own admission a direct team reliant on dead balls for most of their goal chances. This thread from two weeks ago is enjoyable given some of the stuff they're saying today http://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/161035-tranmere-fan-in-peace/ The refs were better than the ones at Walsall, Tweakes, so I won't complain. Agree on the tackle on Pritchard and Wiggins' head injury. Also agree about ball going out of play. Ultimately, however, the refs let us away with timewasting, and let them off fairly ok for their cynical fouling. Is there truth in talk that some fans were held up due to train problems? Don't know if it was a rare steam engine trip the other direction or something like that...
Nice one Tewkes - any more observations? Must admit, it sounded a but brutal on CAFC player, and Wednesday were quoted by James Scowcroft (commentators mate) as the 'Most Physical team he had seen this season'
whats made today really satisying , aside from us winning, is The Braindead got stuffed 6-0 at home !
Semedo should have been sent off. Despite on our half, he was the last man. And before you ask, I booed him. And llera (sorry MT). What's the chant about llera not having a clue?
Not sure I'd accept that as a quid pro quo - our 'timewasting' seemed to consist of Hamer trotting up in a leisurely fashion to take every free kick in our half and minutely adjusting the ball to his exact requirements, whereas their persistent and blatant fouling could have robbed us of players, and on a couple of occasions may have cost us a goal opportunity.
No, I'm pretty much done, Stu - I have to say I'm still buzzing - I may not even have to record the FLS show tonight... I'd agree with Scowcroft, only I'd say 'for several seasons'. For me, it proves they lost the argument - they were outplayed and out-thought throughout and that was the only response they could muster.
Oh wow - have a look at this piece from CP, posted late on the OS, especially about Megson - tasty stuff... http://www.cafc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10267~2576261,00.html ...get in there, Chris!
Only just back - my late decision to go was fully vindicated Fantastic performance all round, Wednesday had a few opportunities but at no point did I ever feel we were going to concede. If they don't replace Ben Marshall then they are really going to struggle to create goals. Pritchard DOMINATED Semedo. This boy has got to be one of the finds of the season. Not only is he stronger than he looks, he has a very calm demeanour on the ball which means he usually picks the right option. Solly his usual reliable self, up against a very good opponent today in Ben Marshall but mostly came out on top. As Jackson was lining up the free-kick I was begging him to lay it off to Kermo as Jackson's free-kicks are often useless. Shows what I know. Magical moment. One or two concerns - Danny Green wasn't particularly effective today, and BWP is clearly missing something. He did everything right for his chance, but the BWP of 2 months ago would have buried it. Clarke should have shot when clean through right at the end, if he wants to feature more he really needs to put in some work. The fans were superb, just as noisy as against Fulham. We ARE going up.
After reading the previously mentioned article, i'm so much happier that Chris Powell is the man in charge of CAFC. I thought he'd be too nice to succeed, but i'm becoming more convinced that he is the man to close an awful chapter in this clubs history.
You have to remember that the Owls have every reason to be upset........ it was their season's 'Cup Final' and they lost it
I feel sorry for wednesday with megson and maderic what a dream team that is. Seems like they are very upset with morrison on owls talk oh well nevermind
Morning Gentlemen. I'm pleased to be able to tell you that I've now stopped floating round the ceiling and am now merely hovering a few inches off the floor... Just as well really, I've got to put in a couple of hours work this morning. (Boo, hiss) Just looked properly at our away record this season - it is truly amazing - when did we last win ten away games in a season?
And there are still 9 away games left ! Had a brief look at the fixtures, and aside from the fact that we have still played 3 more games away than at home,Sheff U are the reverse and have to play 2 more away than at home, we have a game in hand over them and 'Udd, and also, Sheff U have to play us,Sheff Wed(what a ferocious game that is bound to be) and Udd away in 3 of their next 4 away games. The fat bloke is out, but the fat lady isnt singing yet !
