He keeps on banging on about how your luck has run out, and you will get thumped by Chelsea. IMO, O'neill deserved a bit of luck and you needed that break to get your season going. I know a load of you were saying we got lucky at the start of the season, but I'm not looking to hold that against any of you. You've had some luck, but your success has been based on your good organisation at the back. You definitely need more quality up front but your defence looks solid and you look difficult to unlock. I think Chelsea will beat you, but I don't think it will have anything to do with "your luck running out". You've had some luck and some bad luck, like all PL teams. Merson is a fat ****. He seems to hate both NE teams.

He is a shocking character - no doubt about that. His Southern bias is there for all to see. However, he is a junky alchoholic. What gets me about that Chelsea v Sunderland preview is that 99% of the air time was spent talking about Chelsea. Hardly a balanced preview...

tbf mate they are a top team with quite a few things going on this week (players signing lampard falling out ect) if it was wigan or wolves getting 99% talking i whould be annoyed
If we beat Chelsea 3-0 again they will be saying how bad chelsea and John terry etc etc were, and not give us credit and on match of the day we will get 20 seconds of highlights !.
Don't let it get to you lads it's just typical southern bias to us up in the highlands of wasteland North East. None of those on that panel give a toss about any teams North of Manchester, Merson will praise Arsenal to the hilt I seem to remember when we got a 0-0 draw down there we parked the bus fouled all day and not once played football, he seemed to forget about the two best chances of the game falling to SAFC. He said something similar when we beat them at SOL 1-0 we were lucky that Arsenal had a depleted team, Bent was offside etc. etc. Le Tissier wouldn't praise us if we won the league, both cups and the CL trophy beating Barca 6-0. Thompson and Nicholas tend to say half decent stuff about us as long as we aren't playing Liverpool.
