Updated blog on why Swincombe Flame looks a handicap blot.

    2.30 Warwick – THEHILLOFUSINEACH 6/1 (BOG) – HANDY ANDY 12/1 (BOG)

I don’t really like betting in these pertemps races as there are always plots going on so I will only be having small punts in this race today. There are a couple I like, starting with Thehillofusineach he could still be potentially well in despite a 22lb rise for a cheeky win at Uttoxeter in December. He made a mockery of his handicap marks of 101 and 108 in his last two outings and is surely capable of better. He handles this ground and will stay the 3m1f trip no problem at all. This Jonjo O’Neill 8yo is still very lightly raced and the way he won at Uttoxeter would suggest he is capable of running a big race from a mark of 130 this afternoon. Paddy Brennan is a good booking with the champ still on the sidelines and at 6/1 I will have a small dabble.

Handy Andy is a more speculative selection. He created an excellent impression when winning on his hurdling debut for current connections at Newbury having been bought after winning a point to point. He defeated a horse I really like at Newbury called Our Father, that one has bolted up off a mark of 129 this season suggesting Handy Andy could be well in here off a mark of 127 if returning to form. He has however been pulled up in two subsequent starts but may well have had valid excuses. His trainer reported he pulled muscles in a Grade 1 contest at Aintree and then he didn’t look the most natural of chasers when started off in a Grade 2 event at Wincanton. He is a risky one but at 12-1 I will take a chance on him returning to form.

    Hi all

What time do the entries have to be in by for the leagues comp?

And do the horses we pick have to win only or does it count if they're placed?

morning lads, get in kempton is on. loads of racing today, loads of value. busy day can't wait, still like pause and clause in the 2.30 at Warwick. The lanzarote looks, potentially, wide open. I say potentially because I agree Swincombe Flame could well be well ahead of the handicapper at this moment in time. I do however think there's a bit of value with Featherbed Lane at 14s. The handicappers punished him by, imo an excessive, 15lbs for his latest win but 7 of that comes off with the first time booking of a claimer which could leave him competitve if the handicappers mark is fair. Should be a cracking race, a case can be made for about half the field!

Just try and get them in before the first race of the day mate. It's a win competition based on tote odds. But if scores are tied, they are split by points on placed horses. 20 second, 10 third.

    2.50 Kempton LIGHTNING STRIKE 12/1 (BOG) – RADJANI EXPRESS 20/1 E.W (BOG)

A very good and competitive renewal of the Lanzarote Hurdle for which the Novice Swincombe Flame is currently the favourite. She was a good bumper horse and has taken to hurdling really well but I just can’t have her at the 6/1 on offer this morning. I am going to put up Lightning Strike as my main bet. A very good hurdler/chaser on his day (140 at best for both) he returned to form last time out with a fine 10 length victory at Hereford off a mark of 120. This is tougher and he has a 6lb penalty for that victory but this one could still be well handicapped and if in the same mood he could take some stopping this afternoon for the in form Venetia Williams. He has a touch of class about him (93 rated on the flat) and I am hoping his win the other day was a good confidence booster.

The other horse I like the look of at the prices is Radjani Express. He had some smart form when trained in France and has shown definite promise in two starts for his new trainer Nicky Henderson. He has shaped as if this step up in distance will be in his favour and I can see him running a massive race this afternoon at a big price. He has been dropped a couple of lbs to a rating of 137 and I will be disappointed if he isn’t competitive off that mark.

    Hello lads.

The Wetherby abandonment has scuppered my nap Mac Aeda and other fancy Woody Waller...destined not to have a bet this week by the look of things!

However,I do agree with most on here that Swincombe Flame looks to have an outstanding chance in the Lanzarote and 6/1 looks a cast iron ew bet to nowt...might have a go at her,so to speak.

Menorah is well in his novice chase, despite the enthusiasm on here to lay him, since his two rivals are penalised.Fascinating little race but certainly not one to be punting in from my perspective.

In the other decent quality novice chase Oddy and RV are sweet on Frascati Park but I'm really not that keen on him, despite his form in the book.He has to concede weight to all his rivals and the lightly raced Lavelle horse is effectively a winner without a penalty and will receive 8lb.Alfie Spinner,Connak and Golden Chieftan are all promising types, also in receipt of weight.Cracking little contest.

I'm also going to have a few quid on Carloswayback in the 12.45 at Punchestown.Lightly raced,he was close behind subsequent winner Berties Dream LTO.He looks to have more scope than the two favourites.

3/1 is fair value and he may drift a little given the connections of the first two in the market.

    GL all.
