And that, Cosi, is part of my problem, because as far as I'm aware the only thing that HAS been proved so far is that nearly every theorist has been wrong, and the consensus I got was that it was possible that ALL of them were. It seems to me that nearly every new discovery is counter to excepted theory. And who knows what they'll unleash if they're almost right, last time they played around with the fabirc of the universe they gave us intense radiation, unknown number of deaths, a few inhabitable places. Oops.
Yeah, I see where you're coming from Miggs. (Oops! Interruption: 43 is off the circuit!) One of the most intriguing aspects of CERN's research is that the search for Higgs has been narrowed down to the most difficult 'place' (wavelength) to be able to make the discovery! Religious types might suggest God is deliberately hiding! But if it turns out that the remaining part to be explored is ultimately 'eliminated from further enquiry' it leaves present Scientific theory dumbfounded, because it is the only remaining elementary particle of those originally predicted by quantum theory, yet to be discovered. In other words, if there is no such thing as the Higgs boson, what the hell is causing reality to be the way we are seeing it?!!?! !!
I read on sig in a different F1 forum that Pi is the signature of God. How profound is that when you think about it.
about as profound as a soggy newspaper with greasy chips in it! (apologies if you are too young to remember).
Well, whoever wrote it should have spoken not of 'Pi' but 'Phi'. Phi ( Ф ) is an irrational number which defines the 'golden ratio' and has a value of 1.61803399. . . The ratio (or proportion) of 1.618⦠to 1 has many peculiarities, not least being capable of generating any point in the plane by geometric progression, infinitely; both inwardly and outwardly, without ever reaching an end. This property can also apply to three dimensional spaces (and presumably beyond?!); and is also a proportion favoured by nature, perhaps (probably?) because of its scaling nature. In this sense, it truly is nature's 'fractal', being self-similar at all scales. Ф is commonly found in the natural spirals of shell-fish (particularly the nautilus), pine cones, etc. It is also the reason behind Apple's choice of an 8:5 aspect ratio (=1.6) for some of their displays, including the very one I'm using! Oddly enough, it is very close to the difference between a statute mile and a kilometre, and the reason behind these familiar lengths is, well, almost spooky! Ha! Watching me at the tyre barriers can give a false impression you know. - Honestly; sometimes I can actually miss them!
I've hit tyres myself, but would happily accept to being an extreme novice. My comment was more comparing you to photons or bosons or whatever zoom around in circles.
