We have had numerous bids turned down in recent days and have so far only managed to secure Macheda on loan ( and that was one of Sir Neils). I know it is extremely early days for MH but what are our chances of survival if none of our targets become available or worse still teams wont sell to us? Think about it logically ......if teams in or around the relegation zone refuse to sell players to us ( and I include Fulham potentially in this group) it is pretty much nailed on that we will go down without additional players coming to club. They must surely be thinking well that QPR down we are now only trying to get more points than 2 teams to survive rather than 3. Am i being overly paranoid or do these thoughts go through the minds of managers in similar positions to ourselves in the league? Also, not sure how keen top six clubs battling for places in Europe are to offload some of their squad players?
No one's selling to anyone at the moment - it seems to be mostly brinkmanship and chains of deals being held up.
everyone always bids lower first. clubs will be more likely to accept bids in the last week of the transfer window when they realise they won't sell for a higher price. You'll see a lot more activity in the forthcoming two weeks.
It might be too early in this transfer window to get overly concerned, and it might be all to do with teams looking to drive prices upwards, but if players like Alex and Samba are keener to go to PSG, we might get left with a pretty bare cupboard to choose from. It's likely MH convinced TF and AB that he was a manager with good relationships with players (e.g. Blackburn, Fulham & Man City) to bring in the signings we would like... what happens if that is not the case?
I share your anxiety but, having thought about it more rationally, the others are right. All the action will/should happen towards the end of the month. Our problem is, we all know we really need new players ASAP!! We may even not have any new players for Wigan!
Let's face it, if you have a player that wants to go, or is the subject of interest from other clubs, then you're gonna hold on and watch the price climb, aren't you?
I think your right, plus other clubs can smell our desperation, we need players in for the Wigan game at the latest.
I think Sparky will get more out of what we have got now so no need to panic. Alex seemed to be slipping away but if we have put in a new bid then it can't be a definite no just yet.
Does anyone on here SERIOUSLY think we wont be signing any decent players this January window ? Maybe i'm just a sucker but it seems pretty nailed on that we are gonna be signing some quality players in the next 2 weeks or so. It just needs a few players to be moved from club to club to get the system going. Keep the faith lads
1st bids for anything are rarely accepted, you go in with a low offer hoping the other side are desperate to get rid. eg offer £3m for a £5m player and then usually come to a figure somewhere in the middle. Its players like Samba that will be hard to get, not ones like Onuha and ALex who arent wanted by their clubs.
